Re: How To Build Two HID Lights For Under $100
What kit is everyone ordering now??? My simple mind has gotten confused trying to locate it on fleabay.
Ordered 2 of the vision X Eurobeams and they should be in tomorrow.
I think I am going to covert my 3M candlepower Brinkman Q beam during the same time to a 55watt 5K HID also. The factory bulb has quit and that housing should have more than enough room to fit an HID ballast.

I got everything from amazon total cost with shipping $106 and some change. I got the 6000k, it seems the 5000k was out of stock. It looks badass, I will be testing them out this weekend!

Put mine together. I had to gut the housing to even get close to making it fit. Then when I was done relaized one of the bulbs was loose. Took it apart and the damn bullb retainer/housing broke. I epoxied it and will try putting it back together tomorrow after it cures overnight.

Draw is 2.9 amps and super bright. Pulled into the cove and had to cut them off so as not to blind the guys fishing at the boat ramp- just lit it up. Afraid they'll be too bright for some of our foggy mornings

Re: How To Build Two HID Lights For Under $100
I tested mine out last weekend running around at night and I must say that they are the shiznit! They worked better than I thought they would. I will only need the qbeam to set the decoys. I used the ultraslim ballast and like others have stated it is a very tight fit but once you figure it out it will close up ok. I ran a bead of silicone around mine to give it some extra protection from the salt water, I don't know if this is necessary or not? Hope they last a few years.

I ordered the ultraslim, but they obviously weren't. The epoxy held, so i should be okay.

What gauge wire should I use to power from the battery to the switch then to the lights? I am running 2 right now and one keeps blowing it's ballast!!! The other is still the original ballast and running fine.

Well, after alot of trial and error I finally got the ballast in the housing. Anyone notice after you peel off the halogen sticker off the lens its says "HID" underneath it? Also here is how I got it to fit.

Re: How To Build Two HID Lights For Under $100
So I built the lights and a light bar for them. I must have ordered the wrong bulb because there was no way to attach the lights to the housing. Nothing a little epoxy couldn't fix. With 4 (2 Euro and 2 Flood) lights I haven't used my spot light since put these on. In more open areas the lights are plenty bright but once you get in the trees it absolutely turns night into daylight. Thanks to the original poster

Re: How To Build Two HID Lights For Under $100
so if I have zero lights and zero brackets and zero anything really for this kind of thing where do I even start. lights are def the next step on the rig so this intrigues me. found this from amazon http://www.amazon.com/XENTEC-6000K-Ball ... 520&sr=8-1now as far as mounting them i have a 2060 GD with a pointed bow. what kind of bracket would i need and where can i find that? i want the whole thing to be removable and not to interfere with gigging rails i am going to install as well.

Re: How To Build Two HID Lights For Under $100
I see on Amazon that Xentec offers several H(X) lights, with 1000 through 8000K. The recommendation above was for the H3, with 5000K lights (which are bright white). What is the H3 vs H4? Any reason not to go with the 6000K? Is the higher the number brighter? Ideally I want the 35W for battery longevity.. The reviews on some of the kits from Xentec were not good...

I've got the 55w in 4300k mounted and I am about to change one of the bulbs to a3000k. I was told that the warm and cool colors would have some contrast and more definition.

I found the housing on Amazon as well. Look up Vision X VX-4410. You can order the ballast/bulbs all at one shot.

It's now been almost two seasons since I started this thread and I'd like to know if any of you guys have found something better to replace these HID's with? I see that there are some powerful LED's now but I haven't looked into them too much.

Just completed my pair of euros the other day. Thanks to the original poster for the setup. I went with 2 euros and 5000K color lights as suggested.

 No cutting necessary!
Big thanks to the OP for this idea. I wanted to add my contribution:
You do not have to cut anything on the light housing with the new style slim ballast! That's right - no cutting. I was able to fit the ballast in leaned at an angle and still have enough room for the bulb and connectors. P1020419.JPGP1020420.JPGP1020418.JPG I did have to remove a small tab on the connector but it clips on, no cutting. I was able to lay the ballast in, position the bulb connectors to the side and assemble the light without force.
The only "skilled" labor was to drill and install two extra screws to hold the H3 bulb in place. The tab on the reflector housing was not long enough to hold down the bulb.
I tested in the yard last night and WOW very bright. Thanks again for the $88 set of lights! (housings $55 amazon free shipping, $33 HID kit free shipping)

Re: How To Build Two HID Lights For Under $100
I'm bringing this thread back!
Built these lights last year and was really impressed with the output and economical price of all the components.
Some background - I have two of these lights wired to my auxiliary battery located at the front of the boat - along with a bilge pump, navigation lights, and some interior led strips ( only running lights and nav lights on at the same time). All of these components are wired to a fused five switch panel. The auxiliary battery is a 12V 12Ah tractor battery that was bought new last fall and has been trickle charged after almost every hunt.
First few hunts the lights worked great. After a month or so the lights would turn on - and then begin flickering after a few minutes and eventually shut off all together - which is great when your trying to navigate in the dark...f
Rest of the season it seemed the only time they would work at all was when the battery was fully charged. I can't imagine these lights draw that much - even when the bulbs are warming up.
Does anyone have any wiring expertise they might be willing to share? Is it possible that the battery is under powered?

I'm going to bump my thread in case anyone is still looking for some economical lights. I'm now entering my 6th season with these lights and they are still working great.
