Post Would appreciate some build advice
So I am in the midst of my first longtail build. Bought the mad motor guide and it's pretty good. Once I am done I am going to write a tips section that will help others with the build. I do a lot of fabrication and even this project has had its moments. But every project does! Anyways, I bought a Honda 6.5 gx200 to power it and so far, have the motor mount built and have the shaft built. I need a u joint and a prop to finish the project. I plan on getting the stage 1 hop up kit from nr racing. Should make around 9 HP. Can you guys recommend me a prop and a u joint? I can't find a u joint locally that is rated for anything but 1000 rpm. I was also wondering what you guys thought about their cavitation plate and skeg design. Wondering if you guys like it or know of something better. Like I said , this is my first build and I'm totally green on the whole mud motor deal. Any help, advice, tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you may can find the yokes and u joint at driveshaftparts.com, i have purchased some from them and have not had any issues, also used the tractor supply yokes and u joints and so far have held up too.

i have used the mad mud motor plans but basically only used it for info on how to build shafts, the balance of the builds that we have done i looked at how the oem brands were put together and built the frame like they have

for the motor mount, skeg and cav plate we use 1/8 inch plate, weld 2 pieces of 1 inch angle on each side of the base plate for support just like go devil does

i believe the mad mud motor plans states 1/4 inch plate which is heavy for that setup

here is a link to how they turned out, scroll to the bottom of the link

Thanks. I ended up giving Jake at B.W. a call. Very nice and helpful guy. He is sending me a 7x4 prop, and a U-joint that they use on their motors. Your motor looks good Brian. Hope mine turns out like that too. Looks like Go Devil uses some stuff called Aqua Lube to grease up their shafts from the factory. Whats yall's opinion on that brand. How much will I need to fill the whole shaft? I ended up threading 1 zerk above the center bushing and one below it to fill easier. I also ended up using a roller needle bearing at the top of my shaft instead of a bushing. Apparently that is where the most heat will be. I also saw some guys running a flanged bronze bushing at the top and bottom of the shaft after the grease seals. is that just to help keep the grease in and dirt out? Thanks.

a good marine grease will be your best bet but we have used regular lucas brand also and worked fine, when you fill your shaft, fill thru the grease zerks and allow it to back up into the pressure cup, do not fill thru the pressure cup, we have done that before and had the cap pop (blow off) and throw grease everywhere.
