Post need help on longtail brand !!!
hey guys this is my first post so don't be to critical!! So i just bought the new E.B.A.D.S from four rivers layout boats with the flip door blind. I want to put a longtail on it and my budget is about 1800 for the motor plus what ever shipping is. I have looked at every 9 horse i could find. i would love to put a 12 horse but just cant afford that right now. so please help me out and let me think what brands i should or shouldn't be looking at. do any of you know anything about orion mud motors, i like how they offer a centrifugal clutch system on their smaller motors. let me know if you have ever owned a smaller longtail like this and what your experience is. I appreciate all the input and helping me out, i hope everyone's season is going great !!!!

The Powell Performance Fab Woodduck motor I just bought may be perfect for your boat. I mounted mine on a MLB Chuck Huff....The shaft on the Woodduck motor that Powell makes is shorter than most and really looks like it isn't much difference than a surface drive when you look at the distance from the transom. 59 lbs. too. $995 for the 6.5 hp Honda Clone and then $165 for the hop up kit to make it 9 hp. Check out the link below...this guy is new to the mudmotor biz but he's been a Performance fabricator in the ATV/UTV biz for some time now...quality stuff...I'm an inspector by trade and the welds looked great on the one on my boat!
You should easily get 15-18 mph with your EBADS with one of these...He got 15 mph with a 14x32 jon into the wind with him (230lbs) and a 100 lb lab on an open lake with the 6.5.

The shorter shaft enters the water at a bad angle. That is why all the other builders use a pretty universal shaft length. The sd enters almost parallel and has gear reduction. They are not comparable.

Glad it works for you, but comparing it to an sd is a far stretch from reality.

Stumpjumper has always been straight drive. So maybe Swomp copied someone else. Wait, Thai longtails are the first and original longtails. SO everyone copied from them , even though American longtails are tougher and more durable. Thai longtails are designed for their environment.
