 Re: Mad mud motor plans
What type of welder will u be using ie stick or mig either way u want to stagger your heat , espacially where all 3 braces meet if you weld them all at once ( keep your heat in that area) you may deform the dom tubing if that what u r going to use . Hope this helps

 Re: Mad mud motor plans
Mig welder and thanks what angle should the shaft be at I heard straighter the better I am also going to be shortening the handle because the stealth 1200 doesn't allow for much moving around with the longer handle

 Re: Mad mud motor plans
15* shaft angle works pretty well on most boats, any steeper and your pushing the limits of the u-joint for longevity and vibration, any shallower and the prop might not ride right. Shallower angles on a short transom boat will be faster though, more of the thrust is pushing you forward

 Re: Mad mud motor plans
I just got my plans from MMM and I am really less than impressed. Most people have watched the 8 part MMM build video on YouTube and the plans don't have much more information. All the 'hard to find' parts are listed on McMaster Carr website (just do a search with your sizes). No specifics on larger engines, etc. I emailed in one question on 'thrust to the motor shaft' and got the standard answer 'we made it as simple as we could'. Since the pictures in the plans are not good, I now wish I would have gotten the CAD version that are sold right next to MMM on EBay. Maybe there would have been some new information in those.

 Re: Mad mud motor plans
I bought the MMM Plans also and ended up only using small parts of the book for the actual build. Some of my own personal upgrades were tubes for the frame, Hill Marine Prop, Beavertail bearing assy and prop shaft. Their transom mount is also pretty cheesy so I used a T design I seen on someone elses build. You could get just as much info off Youtube and here on the forum. Your imagination is your only limitation. Good Luck Builders.
Also thought the plans lacked substance but it does give you a good starting point.
