Well its starting to get hairy at the hospital now. Biggest most prestigious hospital in LA, ranked in the top 100 in nation and Obama care is setting the bar.

So far they have eliminated our in house staffing pool by forcing them all to re-apply for staff positions at lower pay.

Sent out an email this week declaring a Hiring freeze due to the loss of approx. 90 million dollars of annual budget (approximatly 5-7% loss according to the email)

Sent me a paper letter to inform me that they will no longer be matching my 401K. (which wouldnt bother me as much except that I am non-benefit full time so I already had no benefits, now I get nada, yet have to work same time, schedule and reqs as staff).

Oh and just as a side note, found out this week that there is a medical equipment tax tacked into the health bill, that you have to pay taxes on medical equipment. The great part is that my Dad in his late 60's after life time of work with a small buisness will have to pay this tax on all his medical equipment....the catch is, he is a veterinarian...but b/c his equipment can be used on people he will get taxed on it same as a hospital or Dr office. Also that the LVMA that carries his health insurance will be droping thier coverage and he will not have health insurance after Jan 1st.

so any and all who voted for this POS president can all go F@#k your selfs and you better pray you dont end up as one of my patients.

The medical device tax is levied on the manufacturers sales, not the end user. But you can guess who it gets passed onto...the hospitals, docs, and surgery centers buying the equipment. Either way it hurts everyone. It hurts the manufacturers and their employees. Many have cut jobs because of it and are cutting R&D amongst other things. And the cost gets passed onto end users...who then must try and figure out a way to pass it on to patients in a round about way. This whole smoke and mirrors program is nothing but a giant shit sandwich for us all to eat.

And I just graduated last Friday with my nursing degree... Guess that was a waste...

All the "big" health systems have gone to consumer based health plans and will be losing % points on their Medicare dollars if there outcomes are not where they should be . Readmission rates with CHF are the the biggest violation with pay for performance healthcare. Considering most hospitals run at about a 3% profit margin a percentage point can be devastating. Also most hospitals are not matching with 401 , 403 retirement programs like have traditionally. It's just a nice place to park your money per-tax.

I have said this in the past, and will repeat it...No large corporation's pay taxes! That goes for hospitals, heath care equipment companies,,Large oil companies,,,,etc etc..

Those cost are passed on to the consumer!! By doing this, the middle class is slowing but steadily being moved toward the "lower class"....Before you know it,,,Part of Obama's commuist goal will be complete!! Eliminate the middle class by lowering them to the poverty level. This will leave the Wealthy and Powerfull, and the Poor....Dictatorship is on the way!!! obamacare will also have an effect on our business....with the lowering of payments recieved for medicare medicaid, it will have a huge effect on nursing homes who already run a thin profit margin....lowering what they recieve per patient yet raising the cost of business by having to offer insurance to all employees will cripple their ability to expand and remodel existing nursing homes, which will effect our business dramatically. It will also effect the manufacturers of the textiles we purchase for these jobs as will as our blind manufacturers and cubicle track and privacy curtain manufacturers......The ripple effect will go very deep and effect all sorts of suppliers and manufacturers.

I was a tech at etmc. Ive got a few friends that graduated in the last year who went to work at etmcs OR and are not very satisfied, they said they weren't given much training just kinda tossed in the mix. Needless to say the doctors are pretty rough on them. On the other hand one of my friends went into OR at mothers and loves it, said she had like 6 months training. I'm pretty set on the ICUs.

I do all surgeries except hearts and valves. Mainly ortho and neuro but this year I started doing eyes and robots. Also do a lot of charge nurse. Moving up in the chain of command.

also to employers there is a 5% premium tax per employee and same for dental and if your company has a "high" premium based on what the government thinks is a high premium the government calls it a cadilliac plan and the employee is responsible for paying income tax on the amount that is over and above what the government thinks the premium should be. So let say obama says a 10,000 premium for medical insurance is the max if you have a premium thats 16,000 6,000 of that would be considered taxable income and income tax on that would have to be paid by the employee.
