How to increase speed on 18 HP B&S Vanguard Longtail
Below are some pictures of the prop and pulleys and I have come up with the following measurements:
Prop has two blades and is approximately 9" by 4.5". I am not sure of the brand and it looks nothing like any of the "mud motor" props I see online. Maybe it has the wrong pitch?
Top Pulley is approximately 3" Bottom Pulley is approximately 6" The distance between the center of each is approximately 7.5 inches and I run two 5/8" by 30" B27K Kevlar V Belts
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yeah...lol. Get a new prop from go devil to start. Find someone with a GD to use their serial number.

I'll probably have to take it somewhere because I'm not sure how to get the prop off. I'm assuming its seized due to the saltwater but maybe there is a trick I'm not aware of? Map torch?

Thanks. I was reading that topic earlier today. Torque and anti-seize

Thats a Scavenger motor, correct? arent the flukes on that prop ass backwards from a regular longtail prop due to the fact the motor is backwards?

Also,
See the below picture of the prop:
Does the 9"x4" measure how thick the whole prop is or just the part that mounts to the shaft?
Also, it appears my shaft is only 5/8 of an inch so clearly the standard 7/8 inch props won't work.

Heck man, I gotta say them scavengers arent too pretty... If I was you Id be cuttin that thing up building a new mounting plate for the engine and flip it around. Use the original belts and buy a prop from one of the many companies mentioned above. As long as the shaft is 3/4" x 10 threads you aughta be set. At least you would be able to buy props for the dang thing and you'd have a super longtail that would most likely haul ass on that 14 lol

Re: How to increase speed on 18 HP B&S Vanguard Longtail
So I talked to the guys at scavenger backwater motors and they were a great help.
A few tips they gave me were to trim the cav plate which will increase the speed by approximately 2 mphs
Shim the engine up in case the belts are slipping (took about 10 minutes)
Order one of their new props which have been slightly redesigned and increase top end speed by 20%. Could be them just trying to sell me a new $180 prop. As compared to other mud motor props, theirs are actually a bored out auger in which each blade is 180 degrees. Nothing like a typical MM prop. Reversed pitched since the engine sits backwards. Pros = stronger, more torque, will skim rocks/hard bottom. Cons = slower, doesn't dig into mud. Just skips off the top.

Flashalexb, I wouldn't put any more time and money into it. Sell it, get you money back and find a used godevil longtail. You can find them pretty cheap these days. I have a 23 GDLT on a 16x42 weldbuilt running 20mph light. I think it will cost you to get this one running better and money might be better spent on another.
