Guys, i'm new to the mud motor world and need advice on engines for my boat. The boat is a 14ft long, 48 inches wide across the bottom. It's a all welded aluminum bass tracker, got a live well, trolling motor, dual batts,carpet, flip up seats, and plenty of storage. Obviously heavier than the standard 1448 jon, currently running a 25hp evinrude outboard 2stroke. With all being said, do i needa 25hp mud motor ,or go a lil bigger like a 27hp or a 31-35???? The boat is rated for a 25, but i only manage 20 mph, alone in the boat now, would like at least 25mph topend. Many thanks folks

I think a big block (29, 31, 35/36) will be way to heavy for your 14 ftr...call the mfgr and get weights on their models....23's, 27's and go from there. The 23 briggs is a surprisingly strong motor...go demo a gator tail 23 if you can. Nuetral, power trim, instant reverse and should be lght enough to hang on your boat.

I prefer a longtail for cost reasons. Any ideas on max hp for my boat guys? Thanks much..........
