Re: Mini Airboat with a Stage II
Don't want to bust your chops but it won't run dry ground I got a airboat with a 65 rotex in it that will smoke the living dog shti out of that boat every day of the week. I think that is just a joke and waste of $$ just my o2. No hard feelings you can sell one to somone who don't know shit about boats all day long!! He stayed in the water the whole time and if yall video it on ground get the footage when yall water down the grass and spread the soap

Re: Mini Airboat with a Stage II
Agree it will never been a hill burner in S LA due to the grasses we have in he marsh, but it will do what I need. It will carry two people, gear, and deeks around all day long through tidal marsh... Sure a GT or PD will do but I have seen guys work themselves to death too long working the trim and yanking the motor back and forth getting out of stick mud. Sure it wont run dry per say or carry the loads mudmotors can but when you are on a mud flat working you a** off to get out all I have to do is hammer down and glide across.
I am looking at getting a mini like this built for both duck hunting and bowfishing... I could go A/C, V6, or V8 but I can get just about everything I need from a V-Twin and save money on buying it and save money on the gas bill.

They work great for ice fishing, had a VW powered one years ago that really helped get on the slabs at first ice.

Re: Mini Airboat with a Stage II
Yes Paul Dixon builds a very nice boat... He can do that with a 16' boat also. I spoke with him a long time back and got his take on things. But that video you posted is a 12' with a stock 40 Kohler.

Re: Mini Airboat with a Stage II
The best answer? Get both!
My wishful thinking non-existant airboat is a Hamant 16'x8' with two foot grass rake, high sides, 11 T-rails, all 3/16" with heavy duty poly for ice breaking. Two seats up, a removeable bench seat down, a Felber Horsepower Solutions 496 c.i. /610 HP Severe Duty torque monster engine, 2.3/1 gearbox and a four blade Sensinich prop.
Not that I've thought about this at all...
Heck, I think I could do it for $40k... Think I'll auger some cash out of my silo and head to Florida to get this done right now.

Re: Mini Airboat with a Stage II
I picked up a blown up Lycoming 170 on a 11'6'' aluminum hull about a year and a half ago and have finally have it rigged right. Complete engine rebuild with new poly and new 68 '' cypress series prop. It is very fast, good on fuel, and will run dry. I finally installed a sprayer system because floton and very tall lillys, and St Augustine grass in the yard would give me hell. I rigged this boat mainly for a hunting lease (that I don't hunt because it is mainly floton) and pleasure riding. It only has two seats, but have ridden 4 men counting myself, being very careful not to put her on da bottom! It is not the most practical rig for me cuz I am limited to where I can ride. I mainly hunt the Delta out of Berwick and cannot use it there. I have owned car engine mudboats, a Go-devil surface drive, and still own a longtail, and 36 PD and I like or liked all of them. Like mentioned earlier, everything to do with an airboat is very expensive so I done all work except engine rebuild (aircraft mechanic). I must admit as far as capability and speed nothing compares. I still get giddy everytime I drive it!
