 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
i bet a 35hp long tail with some 3/8ths cable would really eat some weeds

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
Yea, I bet it would eat some weeds and flare ducks sitting in a flooded millet field.

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
google it. i believe its been tried, but those small motors do not produce NEARLY enough torque to spin a prop under load.

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
It will be pushing a 45lb kayak and gear. I guess with the right prop it could work. As for cutting the millet, wouldnt that be baiting?

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
Never heard of an 80lb thrust transom mount. "EVER" What happens when the battery dies? Too much weight in a kayak anyway.

I have to try to build one. This is what I have so far. 31cc with a 5 1/2" prop.

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
There is no such thing as an 80lb transom mount trolling motor. It will weigh too much, (+battery) for a kayak anyway. I have $20 in this build. I am not planning to go through straight mud. I have a MM on a boat for that.

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
Weight capacity is 300lbs-220lbs with me leaves me 80lbs for gear. A trolling battery is not practical

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
A 30 lb thrust trolling motor with the prop raised to the surface will go through just as much.

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
50cc (2-2.5 hp) pocket bike motor with centrifugal clutch, electric start, and charging system. Tips the scales at a 24 1/2 lbs, 27 lbs with the battery pack. Two years service and still going strong!

 Re: Weed Eater Ideas?
I run it on a 15 ft Michicraft canoe, but have had it on about anything from a Marsh Rat to an 18' jon. While it is not a true mud motor, it is very good in weeds and shallows. If it does load up, pop the tail, salad flies, and it is back to business. It is fairly quiet and significantly faster and lighter than my 30 lb thrust Minnkota. Unlike the electric, this motor is only limited by the fuel you carry, and will run for hours on a gallon of gas. Above all else, it was a riot to build!
