Post Prodrive question
I have been a lurker for a few years now and just signed up a few months ago.

I recently made a trade for a 36hp prodrive and am looking for a recommendation on where to bring it to have the lower unit serviced near the Jennings, La. area. I know H&M marine in Crowley, La sells prodrive but I have had bad experiences with him in the past.

Thanks

Warren

You can either call PD and ask Peck or KP to send one so you it or just bring it in. It's not that far from you.

I thought about stopping on my way back with it today, but was in a hurry to get it home.

Thanks guys. I guess I will bring it up there Tuesday before I go back offshore.

The lower unit. I noticed a little oil coming from one of the screws. It was a reddish tint. Almost like hydraulic or transmission fluid.

Hey Warren, This is your cousin Bobby. I have a service manual on my computer I can send you. I just had mine serviced at Pro-Drive. They were through and quick. I had a problem with the lower seal. There is a fix they can install that will make it a grease seal on the prop shaft with seals for the oil in the gears.

I have an 07'. I had the older seal nut whhich is located at the prop. They replaced my older seal nut with the newer style. I turned my old one in, but I live about 50 min from the shop. I still use the grease lower unit. Could probably save you a lot of money instead of buying a whole different lower unit.

How much was the cost Bobby?

There is one screw that is either the last one on top or the next one up that is leaking closest to the prop.

Thats where you drain the lower. Justgo ahead and drain your lower and put in new fluid. Put teflon tape on it when you put it back. Goto the pd site and look through the menu at the top of their page and download their .pdf maintenance guide.

If it is indeed an 08', the lower unit is filled with gear oil. Pull the allen head plug, stick a container under it, and walk away. It will take a while to drain. What I did, I had some old oil in mine. I pulled the bottom plug, stuck a cut off milk jug underneath it. Pulled the top allen plug and I sprayed a degreasing fluid in it to break down all the bad oil in mine. The degreasing stuff was similar to electra clean. It flashes out and didn't stick around. Leave the allen plugs out for about 10 min, let all the cleaner evaporate out, reinstall the bottom allen plug, and fill from the top.

You do not fill from the top. Remove the allen head plug from the gear knuckle, and the one by the prop that is leaking for you. Get a 1/4" npt with a hose barb, and you pump fluid in from the bottom plug. When fluid starts to come out of the top plug, put the top plug back in, wrapped in teflon tape. Then wrap your bottom plug real good with teflon tape, pull out the 1/4 npt hose barb, and put the allen head plug back in the bottom
