If you have read any of my posts, I think you will know that I am very far right conservative, anti socialism, and anti welfare.

that being said, I still try to look at every situation from a multitude of angles, and try to see both sides of a issue.

Draw on a piece of paper a time line from the year 1619 to present. Put tick marks in fifty year increments. From 1619, all the way to 1865, shade in your timeline as the period where it was legal to own a man just on the basis of his skin color. During that same time period, it was legal to sell a man's wife or child to another slave owner. During that same time period it was not legal to teach blacks to read and write in the south.

From 1865, shade in all the way up to around 1970, where we had segregated schools, separate and unequal rights, Jim crow laws, and other discriminatory laws all based on skin color.

When you sit back and look at the entire time line, you will see that black folks suffered slavery and discrimination for literally hundreds of years, and it has just been inside the last 40 years that we really start seeing equal rights.

If we start two men at a foot race, but one has a hundred yard deficit to make up for, it may take him a little while to catch up.

Much of the problems inside the black community today can only be fixed by blacks, but for blacks to have a distrust of the system is understandable. Governments will not fix this problem, but individuals can make head way.

I find it interesting that the political party that fought to keep blacks as slaves, started the KKK, passed the Jim Crow Laws, segregated DC... is the same party that put blacks on the current welfare and gov handout plantation.

As individuals, we can make a difference, and we can encourage and help those that will help themselves.

When I was younger, in the mid 70's, there were three bars I remember which had Whites only entrances in the front, and a window in the back for others. As recently as 10 years ago there was a dance hall in Breaux Bridge called La Poussier (the dirt) which did not allow African Americans admission. A black federal prosecutor and his Caucasian colleagues went out to the dance hall not for any ulterior motive, but just to experience the Cajun dance. The owner of the bar taking the cash for admission told the group the white men could enter but not the black guy. They all thought it was a joke until they realized he was actually serious. Well, the result was a huge civil rights penalty and mandatory sensitivity training for the owner and all of his staff...almost shut the historic place down.

Most people fail to realize that the beginning of the end of slavery and constructive slavery, did not start until after 1965. Equally, egregious was the fact that women did not have the same rights as men. They did not have the same right to sit on juries until 1973 in Louisiana, the year after I graduated from high school...imagine that. There were no female lawyers in Louisiana until after 1965, for crying out loud. In 1968, LSU law got a "two fur" as it was called, by admitting the first female and black students, one of which is now Chief Justice of the La. Supreme Court, but that did not almost happen because of the good ole' boy network, too. Today, the generation behind me don't appreciate at all the struggles that existed for all African Americans. No amount of explaining will do for most of that generation who post on this forum. They must educate themselves about this, which is not likely to occur until after m....bddy delivers its new motors, in other words for a long time.

Realize that democrats like LBJ, Fulbright (mentor to Bill Clinton), Gore Sr, Byrd.... were staunchly against civil rights and desegregation.

They knew what they were doing, and they did not switch sides to become republicans. in the decade of the 60s, there were only 25 party shifts from local judges, mayors, all the way up to the federal government. That is no more, and no less party switching than most other decades.

The shift to republican in the south did not come over wanting to put black folks on the back of the bus (Like Obama's Easter morning preacher claimed). The shift came when southerners could not support gay rights, abortion, tearing down of our military, and socialist programs.

The Australians would agree with you. They debated on using slaves for sugar cane and such in Australia, and they determined that it would come back to haunt them in the long run, and decided to just pay a wage to their own people that made it worth their while to do the labor.

John Marshall, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (in the 1800s) saw what was coming today. He suggested that blacks be taken off the plantations, and sent back to Africa, and given a chunk of land, a mule, and money. There, they could decide to stay and farm or, could decide to come back to America and get the same deal out west. He figured out that it would take away the victim mentality that we have today.

he and some other rich dudes purchased a large plot of fertile farm land in Africa to implement the program. The whole deal fell through, but some blacks did decide to go to that chunk of land (now the country of Liberia), and take their land and mule. It is interesting that when they got there, they instituted slavery.

in the article posted by D Guidry where the obviously black individual made excuses for the lazier black americans who have failed to make something of themselves he mentioned that the ''white flight'' from urban areas was the reason that urban area schools and public facilities were inadequate. Doesn't this insinuate that the people living in those areas are relying on the people who are willing to work hard to better themselves to carry the tax burdens and keep the neighborhoods in tip top shape while they loaf around and live the good life on the hard working mans nickle. I for one believe it is flight of hard working people who dont want to raise their families around drugs and poverty and all of the crime that goes along with it. If you are not working to earn the things you need in life you have to steal the things you need.
