No one can argue with this anymore. I think the bible has it right in that the world was created in a very short time, but 7 days has got to be only a metaphor for it. Certainly, the date of creation stated in the bible is not literal at 2000 years. You can still believe that God created the universe but you have to adjust your idea of when that was, that is all.

did you even read the article? or did you just see an article about a theory on the creation of our universe and want to stur the pot? within the article it states that this is just a theory of how the universe might have been created after a big bank, shaped by a mathematical theory of inflation. the scientist even say that they still dont know what happened after the inflation. and where do you get off questioning time frame of GOD? 7 days to him could be a split second, a year, or 100 years. Man created the idea of keeping time. the scientist within this study even say that you will get different answers from different theorist on the same question, this is all a theory. i see why no one likes you. dont come at people with this "you cant argue this anymore" and "you can still believe in what you want but you have to change it to fit what my article says" attitude. Dguildry, I've read your first post several times and maybe I'm reading it wrong but are you stating that the bible says the universe was created 2000 years ago?

Shafer, it is not "expressly" written in the bible that the earth is 6000 years old. In 1650 a protestant Bishop named James Ussher published a chronological time line of the bible. By starting at the end of the bible and working forward, he added up all the life spans of everyone who was given an age. All the so and so begot so and so and he lived for 900 years etc. Using this method he concluded that the day of Adam's creation was October 23, 4004 BC.

That would make the earth 6009 years old this October. This is a widely accepted time line and has been recalculated several times and the age is correct according the stories of the bible. You could ask ranger for more details, he is one that believes the earth was literally created 6000 years ago.

Mind you this is completely ridiculous, even ignoring the fossil record, the Sumerians have a written record going back to almost 10,000 years and a verbal record of much longer.

I grew up in church and still continue to go to this day. I do believe in God and believe that He created the earth as accounted for in the bible. I also believe that if God wanted me to know how old the earth was he would have plainly put it in the bible for me to read.

With that being said it is very apparent that yourself (idacraw) and our friend dguidry do not believe in any of the above. That's fine with me. Believe what you want to just like I believe what I want to. With that being said you will never find me posting something about my religion just to get people worked up who do not believe like I do.

I was just posting the link for y'all to judge for yourselves. I'm not on any mission to convert anyone either way. These discoveries are happening at an extraordinary rate these days. We are living in a great age of scientific discovery and I feel so fortunate to be here. I was particularly fascinated be an article I read the other day that talked about now being able to recreate and bring to life prehistoric animals. Some zoo is going to pay millions to recreate a mastodon. Can you imagine what kind of draw that would be for a zoo?

Cool thing, we have that 1st Amendment. The government does not give me the right to worship how i please, the founding fathers realize that I already have that right, and decided it was the job of the government to protect that right.
