Post 27hp kohler mudbuddy won't stay in the water.
Hi guys i am new here and just got my first mud motor. its a 27 hp kohler mud buddy and it runs fine when your going slow but when you give it the gas the prop try's to come out of the water and i have to constantly hold a lot of pressure on the tiller handle. i am not a small guy I am over 200 pounds and i really have to get under it to keep the stupid thing in the water. i drove it for about an hour today and felt like i had been to the gym. is the some way to adjust this. does it have something to do with the cavitation plate?

Measure at tha widest point and compare to tha 1 u just ordered. As far as a kill switch goes I'm not sure but mudbuddy should be able to get u 1

You can pick up a kill switch at a local autoparts store. Western auto sells then. Also can buy on eBay. I know that I wouldn't use it until you install it. Also it does absolutely no good if you don't wear it. I hook the little wire latch onto one of those rubber wrest bands that you can buy at just about any gas station. Its so much easier to just slip it over your wrist than keep clipping that hook on and off every time. Good luck and I'd only bend maybe the last 1/2or so with a crescent wrench. All the way across the tail end of the plate. (Remember it doesn't take much at all to make a big difference)

Good motor! I have a 2004 27 HP MB. All previous posts are good advice, especially coupe's admonition about getting a kill switch/lanyard and wearing it! I noticed a lot of rust on the prop nut end. Very soon you should try and remove prop, clean threads, apply anti-seize, and then replace. Replace nut/washers if needed. See posts on new owner wanting advice for some simple "upgrades" this forum. My MB LT came with a "trim tab" mounted on the trailing edge- it is bolted on and I bend this up/down accordingly each season. You may investigate if MB supplies them, makes this adjustment easier IMO. I see that is an excel hull- what size may I ask? Good mudding!

This is how I had to bend mine, can't imagine this helps its performance any but I can now let go of the handle while running WOT.
