 gas tank location
With my outboard I have used for years, I have had my gas tank in the front of my boat and ran the hose to the back under the floor. I am wondering if this setup will work with the back water longtail I am gonna put on my boat this year?

 Re: gas tank location
Yep. Shouldn't be a problem at all. I've got 14' of 1/4" I.D. fuel line and the factory vacuum fuel pump on my 23 Briggs does great.

 Re: gas tank location
Awesome. I'm doing a serious overhaul on the entire boat this year. I'm thinking this time next month I'll be making the drive up to the back water shop to get myself rigged up with the 23. They said if I bring my boat they'll put it on and we will take it for a spin to make sure all is in perfect running order before I bring it home. That's some awesome service. It's like a mini episode of "pimp my ride: duck boat edition".

 Re: gas tank location
I will definitely post some photos and share my experience on here. This site really has helped in my decision making as i enter the mud motor world. A lot of reading and some helpful guys here. I would like to give back a little if I can, even if its just some pics and a review.

 Re: gas tank location
Been a while since I posted on here but talked to Jake at back water today and am going to their shop tomorrow for a little tour and to put a payment down on a swomp 23. Wanted to do this a couple months ago but life has been too busy. Just glad to finally get the ball rolling. Can't wait to put some time in on the water with the new motor.

 Re: gas tank location
The location of the gas tank can be modified if need be on most jon boat or other hulls with longtail motors. As Frank said, the conventional hydraulic fuel pump may not be affected by a longer fuel line, however, on some other motors (Honda, Kohler) some have had to add electronic fuel pumps, squeeze bulbs, etc. My placement was dictated by the design of my boat and my fuel needs. I have a six gallon tank which fits perfectly between my two rear pods on my 1648 grizzly. What did not really fit well back there was the starting battery for my 27 Kohler LT. I decided to move the battery up front for this reason and not wanting the close proximity of gas and spark and for weight distribution. The only modification here is the longer 14' battery wire was of a heavier gauge and I added a 50 amp circuit breaker to the positive lead on the battery. Had I a need because of longer runs for say, a 12 gallon tank, I would have to resort to move the tank up front and retaining the battery in the back but that would have meant cutting the bow section to accommodate the larger tank. One advice is to replace the fuel line and carburetor fuel line sections whenever cracks or weathering appear. I always carry at least three fee of spare line and clamps just in case. I would advise you run a line underfloor without restrictions so that when you do change it you don't have to remove the floor and just simply tie on another line and "fish" it out.

 Re: gas tank location
Yeah Jake said that I'd be fine running my gas from the front. I have always done that with my outboard just didn't know what might be different with the new motor. I may end up keeping the gas in the rear and moving my batteries to the front. Doing an entire overhaul in the boat so I'll see what fits when I start chopping things apart.
