Need sone quick help. I'm welding new mounting plates to install a 16 hp motor but not sure about the angle of my motor. Can someone tell me if this looks right or should the motor tilt back more?

That's way too much of angle. Put it at 14 degrees.

I agree too much angle.Frank, how do you like your 1648 war eagle? I was looking at the 1848 model but there is no weight spec on their site. My 1648 grizzly is around #395- how does this compare with yours? I am thinking of eventually going with an 1848 hull and a 35 BackH20 SS.

I like it a lot. The split rear bench, full floor, and the lowered front deck are sweet. No idea on weight though. Today with me (325), another guy(200), gas, battery, and a 65qt Yeti full of ice, drinks, lunch, etc., we hit 18.4 mph. Stock motor.

Back to War Eagle, I'm gonna have this boat for a while and I'm not replacing it unless its with a custom mud hull.

Frank, I believe that WarEagle is .100 gauge? That is all I need. Most of the mfg.'s make .125 today, Phowler looks good but probably too heavy. I figure an 1848 flat bottom mud hull in .100 w/ 35 HP LT I should get at least 20 mph with two hunters and gear no problem. Everybody, including you, say the BackH20 motor is a lot easier to run than the other LT's. Have you ever run in Reelfoot lake? We get mostly blackjacks here, with a sprinkling of woodies, BWT, mottled ducks, and now and then a redhead or widgeon.

Correct. My boat is .100 gauge. These motors are incredibly smooth and easy to run. The guy from Florida on MMT that was in town and rode with power731 and I said these Back Water motors were easier and smoother than his Mud Buddy SD. Take that for what it's worth. I have ran in Reelfoot before. It's shallow, stumpy, and eats boats and lower units for lunch. A buddy of mine owns a resort/guide service in the lake and he tells me that one or two people a year show up from out of town to fish and they bring a $60,000 bass boat and before their trip is up, they've done some serious damage to their boat or motor. A couple people have sunk fiberglass rigs on the lake. Up here I really don't like to waste a shell on anything but a mallard. And I rarely hunt anything besides flooded green timber. Duckslayer17 was the guy from around Central Florida are that we took out yesterday. He was telling me the birds they see and kill down there. He said they don't kill too many mallards. Next thing you know we come around the corner and jump up almost 100 of them. He was pretty excited!

Frank,it's true, this last year I did not get a single mottled, did not see many, but I took 84 ringers. They are fun and fast fliers and pretty good eating. Turkey season has been tough, all the birds henned up, I'm making another dozen cork decoys this summer, teal season end of September comes after that.
