Post 16 x 48 Alweld w/35HP GTR
Anyone have a 16x48 Alweld w/GTR 35? I am about to order this package Friday and was just wondering if there were any performance issues. My buddies seem to like their boats, one has a Alweld and the other a Southfork.

Thanks.

Just to consider a longer length ?

I run a 16x48 GDSD hull and 35 GDSD...
My buddy has a twin rig in 18x48...

With one or two men - we are pretty equal with mine a bit more agile
in tight teritory... With 3 men he outperforms me greatly....

So if you are a big guy or your friends are big guys - consider the 18 foot...

Otherwise - I am very happy with my 16x48 cause I like the agility
of the shorter rig.....

Thanks for the info. Myself and all of my friends run in the 180-190lbs range so I think the 16' length should be good. We hunt in the swamp and it would be difficult to get an 18' through some of the spots we go through.

If I were you I would get a longer boat. I use to have a 16ft. boat with a mud motor on it. Not bad for yourself and one other guy. If you are going to be carrying a big load I'd go with a bigger boat. Just my .02.

Yep - the third man and 16x48 - don't work well together - doable
but reduced performance for sure....

i agree on the longer boat if your going to have 3 or more people in the boat...i had a 1648 pd boat with a 36(before it was stolen) i was fine with two people and gear but throw another person in and the performance fell pretty damn bad.. i have an 18 footer in the making

Had that same exact set up. Ran about 28mph with a light load. Bounced like hell though. Got rid of it and got a 18x48 hull designed for a mud motor and it performs better all around.

My suggestion would be to pay a little more for a mud motor specific hull and you will save money in the long run. Trust Me!

If you go with the 1648 alweld just be prepared to have someone weld trim tabs on the bottom of the transom. Like has already been stated, you would do better with a 1848 and a mud boat hull but the alweld will work just fine. I had a 1648 with a 32 prodrive and it worked fine once I put the tabs on it.

Thanks for all the input guys. Kyle w/gator tail is going to give me a price on the 17' x 54" (in stock) gator tail hull this morning. I would have to wait 6 weeks for the 17' x 48" to be built.

Hello

I have a 16 x48 Alweld w/ 36 Stock PD PT FPR . Used it for one hunting season so for. I like it and don't really want anything bigger. Last hunt, had about 2 inches of water where we set the decoys, idled right through. 2 men , 60 decoys and all of the normal stuff. 26 mph shallow, 24 mph deep
