Post Modifying cavitation plate for tall transom
Has anyone ever modified the cavitation plate on a standard GDLT to account for a 20" Transom? If so what all was involved?

Here is my issue--I have a 2001 Lowe Roughneck 1652 VT and I bought a 25hp GDLT to put on it. I wanted to buy the swivel bracket so I could spin it around inside the boat for easier hauling.

I called go devil today and talked with the owner and he told me that if I put the swivel on it would seriously change the geometry of the cavitation plate and cause me to fight it when the boat planed out.

he told me I would have to modify the cavitation plate to account for my 20" transom... Any ideas or suggestions?

The end result is getting me to the hunting hole, and preferrably being able to rotate the motor.

Why not just cut the transom down?

Hey, how do you like your Lowe Roughneck 1652 VT, I have the same boat. It's not an mm haul but it works on my budget. Sorry off topic was just wondering.

Just cut it to whatever it supposed to be for that motor and cap the top back off with aluminum. Its not hard if you or someone ya know has the equipment to do it. Ive done transoms for outboards for friends of mine and it doesnt take long. A couple hour job start to finish.

That sounds easier than the transome cutting thing. ;)

What is Tai sytle? Is that running without a cavitation plate?

Also when you re-weld the re-designed plate on do you have to disassemble the shaft due to the heat or can you get away with not taking it apart?
