 Re: Instant V. Full Power
My reverse is nice, I got it because I do a lot of fishing out of my boat. If you are a hardcore mudder you better get FPR. I got stuck plenty of times got out by myself but FPR would have been nice. I have an 18x54 so its not the best boat for mud riding but its nice for fishing. Two times I got stuck real bad one with the console one without. It was in lillies thick as hell and reverse didn't move the boat. The lilles we run are bad my cousin had Kirk Mathern mud boat and he had problems sometimes. Its all about personal preference and what you do with your boat. FPR is nice but my Gator tail is bad ass lol.

 Re: Instant V. Full Power
We've been slaughtering the flounder here in Galveston... Tarpon are moving through the area and redfish & trout being caught over shell...
Instant reverse is nice when fishing or dealing with all the yahoos at the boat ramp / fuel pumps

 Re: Instant V. Full Power
Sayng reverse is overated is like saying vagina is overated. It jus makes u a phag. Go devil owners no offense at all. But if u have it and do not use it, u r jus an idiot. I dont care if i have to ratchet mine around. Id rather do that than sleep in da tall grass dat night and it doesnt matter if you have instant or fpr they are both badass designs

 Re: Instant V. Full Power
I think its all about what you are looking to do. I have a gdsd and have not had any problems with out reverse. I can set up next to the shore and use the tight turning radius to get free. On my lease I have a lots of steel and iron debris left from Katrina, and wanted the toughest lower unit I could get,and wanted a longer shaft to help move on if I got high centered.
There are times when at the launch it would be nice to have a instant reverse like the gtr , the wind plays hell with me in a narrow canal on putting the boat back on the trailer because of the hard blind .
If you hunt by your self , the fpr of the prodrive looks to me to be ideal for picking up decoys on a windy day when the boat wants to blow across the pond. You can pull your self to the decoys just like a trolling motor.
With my 20x60 I got to be careful not to go down a dead end ditch that is too narrow to turn around. FPR would be real handy there.
They are all good rigs,With me it was not that I did not care about reverse.but did not want a clutch. Other than stage 3 motors coming apart, most of the stock rigs I seen towed in had to do with clutch problems. Hitting steel like I was doing having a clutch or a weighted back type of a motor seem to be asking for trouble.
If i had the drive way space and the $ I would have one of each.
