Post SHAFT LENGTH
I have been thinking of a new SWOMP 35 I presently have a 24 honda beavertail would like more power the boat is 1752 legendcraft about 12 years old with 15 inch transom. They say I should run the ss but I'm not convinced would rather go with the longer shaft. What would be the difference between the two been running a 70 inch for twelve years no problems. It is kind of handy when you go over hummocks or logs to have that extra length.

I like the shorter shaft on my Back Water. Another piece of advice, Arlon, Jake, and Larry know these motors inside and out. They are not going to steer you wrong. Great guys who have their customers best interest at heart.

the ss is designed to go on a short transom for a reason.

Longer shaft gets better speeds. Shorter shafts are better for turning around in tight spots.

On the H2O site, it states no performance loss on the SS 59" length motor (27,35). If you run a 27 SS for instance, on a short transom boat, apart from turning radius, will the speed then be same as with a 71" length drive on the same boat? I would opt for the shorter length SS if the speed is the same, hoping to make turning a bit easier if I don't sacrifice speed.

Will the long shaft on a on a 15inch transom effect speed the speed and power of the h20 long tail.Back nine years a go had a friend put a beavertail on a 20inch transom boat and it was terrible the people at beavertail said it would work.I told him no it wouldn't work so I'm not convinced wish I could see one run in person.

I have SS on 15/48 flatbottom 15 inch transom. Runs great and handles great. These motors are the best I have ran. The guys at Back h2 o did a great job.

If you run timber or stumps and get high centered a good bit go with the longer shaft.

I have a lowe roughneck 1652. It has a 3 degree bottom and a 20 inch transom. Jake from backwater said to get the 59" shaft and cut my transom. If anyone has seen the transom on a roughneck then they would know these things are built not to be cut. Is the consensus that the 71" shaft the best bet for a tall transom? Or will the adjustable cavitation plate actually make the 59" work on a tall transom? Any opinions?
