Post 27 HP Kohler or 35 HP Vanguard for a 16 mod V
I am in the market for a mud motor, I hunt in a rocky section of the Potomac River. The boat is loaded decoys and two hunters.

Is it worth to buy the 35 vanguard or stay with the 27. I hear more people with the 27 and should I buy a mud buddy or a beavertail. Is there a better product of the two. please any recommendations appreciated!

Just my opinion. buy a 27 godevil and the reason i say that is because of the rocks . Godevils have solid frames that wont break there steel dipped in gav. Mudbuddy and beavertails are potted alum to soft for rocks that chit will break. I hunt in a place that is loaded with rocks and my godevil hits the chit out of them and is still going strong.

i cant find any aluminum on my 23 mblt either, actually mudbuddy has the only one piece mainframe, go-devil doesn't, but nothing against go-devil ive ran a 31 gdlt for a couple of seasons and loved it, but in the long run i think i'd rather have a mudbuddy with the bearing drive, ive got 567 hours on the 23 and still going strong

Have you heard of any negative feedback with the bearing drive design? Going bad while in use? The most noticeable difference that seen is the prices between the models...

Do they all use the same size props? and Are the props generally made the same? Ive talked with several sales agents and I can never find this answer.

So would a 27 kohler mud buddy do fine for a 16' mod V loaded, in a variety of conditions including random rocks, ICE and shallow water.

The 35 hp only offered 2mph more but I dont know about the torque is it worth the Price?

I guess I am nervous before a big purchase as such.

ive never had a bearing failure in over 500 hours and haven't heard of one, and from what ive seen and heard is the old bushing for go-devil didn't hold up great but i think they have re-designed them and they are much better. your not going to go wrong with either brand i assure you of that, mud buddy is cheaper (couple hundred dollars) and have the one piece mainframe (longtail) and the bearing drive. also im pretty sure that all props will fit regardless of manufacture or motor brand they just have to be the same shaft size either 3/4 or 7/8

Does anyone know the shaft size on a 27 hp Go Devil brand longtail or how I could find out what it is on mine. I'm trying to order a new prop.
