 13hp setup advice
My brother just purchased a used 13 hp Honda LT... He put it on a 14' John boat, when I drove it I thought I was in a death trap! No grab bar no seat and don't dare to attempt turning with out coming down to a idle it was some God-awful experience compared to my PD... Yes this was my first attempt at a LT, Does it get any better? The 14' boat plained off well an carried us pretty good as long as we were on step.
My brother is looking for a hull for the motor Any recommendations? He will be using it just to run around the swamp an slus Idk what would be the best length n width combo for the hull to match with the motor But I was telling him get a rounded bottom to help out with the turning and a actual flat bottom instead of ribbed like the John boat. Thanks

 Re: 13hp setup advice
yeah it gets easier, once you get the trim tab set you aughta be able to sit on a cooler and drive pretty comfortably. Either that or you'll learn how to stand up and balance after a while, I was planning on installing a grab bar but just kept putting it off and now I dont worry too much unless im running stumps

 Re: 13hp setup advice
Time in the boat will help a lot. As far as the boat itself my plan has always been: Buy cheap riveted 1436 ($100-200), gut everything out of it, beat the crap out of it, replace when it dies/is too damaged.
That being said, I really like the go-devil duck skiff (or similar) hulls for longtails.

 Re: 13hp setup advice
Yea I agree on gettin by with the little John boat for now... I thought it was kinda neat how I had to push the handle down to keep the prop right in the water until I got up to speed then the motor held its own weight... There isn't suppose to be a set screw to keep the prop from sinking deeper into the water for when you let of the throttle or a latch setting for optimum trim kinda like the godevil surface drive has is there? This motor seems barebones rugged to me, kinda like it
