 Re: Well Fellers
Well for whats its worth terry my camshaft did the ol spin trick and it died at the boat landing about two weeks ago it rung off at the fuel pump lobe but didn't cause any other problem, this was the cheater cam that was welded up for more lift (probably the same you got)_but inadvertinly over hardened when welded and snapped but I have replaced with a mild regrind and not a weld, it has more low end torque and goes just a fast as before without all that rough idle. You will find out when you get in there but I did notice that the compresion came down a little and maybe this may help you. WAS 240/210 and is now 205/195. Whenever we increase compresion we also increase stress. Good luck. Also I only run AV gas 101 low lead.

 Re: Well Fellers
Sorry terry seen the pictures and the cam was a weld up job, like I had but I see that you also had flat tops but they are not forged they are cast by looking at the grain of the cast, you are using 3/8 or 10mm arp studs that is whats is keeping the gasket together and there is anerobic sealant on it. I don't think the billet connecting rods gave but I think like you said that the cam broke and interfered with the connecting rod, is the cam block mount bearing sheared? I ended up going with the regrind and am very satisfied with the performance it ain't no high screamer but it has at lot of low end torque all you have to do is re pitch the prop and it will go almost as fast but not at 5 grand. Talk to BEN, mine will turn only about 4300-4200 and it still run as fast top end and cruise at 2700.

I will be adding that to the checklist. sorry you dad to find this out the hard way, but maybe you might be able to save some of us whose motors are not under warranty.

 Re: Well Fellers
That part of the Shovelhead carb to PD project ?
Custom made or purchased ?
Looks sturdy and better than the rubber ones where a tree limb can knock it off completely !
