S.W.O.M.P. 23 and hull size questions
Good Morning. Been a while since I posted. Need some opinions. I have a 1448 Alumacraft right now and I am wanting to pick up a 23 this fall, BUT I want to upgrade my hull to a custom built 1648 (.100) within the next year or 2 and wondering what ya think about the 23 on the 1648.
Should I just go with a 27 or does the 23 perform well with a 1648?
My typical load is 2-3 guys a 100# dog and about 6-7 dz decoys running both open water and heavy vegitation, not much for mud flats. I do want to plain out though. I HATE bulldozing!
Thanks

I have a 16-46 custom flat bottom. Ran that motor for the first year. About 17 with me alone. About 12 with me and 2 people and hunting load. Me +3 people would not plane. I liked the motor but a load would drag it down.

The above post is dead on. If you are usually hunt with 2 other guys get a bigger motor. That 23 will push that boat well untill you load it down with guys and gear, it's a great motor for a hunting partner and some gear.

Thats the thing. 70% of the time its the old man and myself but the later the season the more gear and always seems to be 1 more guy with us.
So if I go with the 27 do ya think the 1448 will handle that motor for a year or 2?

My 1548 with a 27mb will run around 18-20 mph with a light load, add 2 more guys and gear, it's around 13-15 mph on a good day.. The longer the hull the better it will carry a load. I am sure that 1448 will work, just expect it to be slower.

How heavy is everyone? My boat that is 16x48 with a 23 will plane with three adults assuming we are all normal size. Have planed with 3 and a dog in good conditions. I can also plane out with 2 adults and two children (4 total). Now with those scenarios it isn't fast. Maybe 16, and this is with a surface drive.
Really not sure if a 27 will be that much better. But then again when your talking toting a load its all about torque.
35 will plane 4 guys no problem on a 16x48.
