Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
i was thinking about buying the Mad Mud Motor LT plans but wanted to hear some success stories...i mean are they worth the 30 bucks... I already have two Kohler Command Pro 7hp motors new in the box...kinda wanted to build a mini twin long tail...thought it would be kinda fun on the back of a 12 foot jon anyway...so if you have pics or success stories pm me, message me on here or email me cooperwright85@hotmail.com

Boats aint fun on the bottom, all that weight you WILL more likley than sink a 12' boat.

Why spend the money on two frames when you could buy a bigger block?

My guess would be it varies person to person, longtails are pretty simple... If you are a compitent welder and can get the right stuff it shouldn't be bad

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
ya id say it just depends on if you really know what youre doing or not. tons of people have built great motors without em, and some should have had more guidance, like me.... just keep lookin at other longtails and see how confident you get, im sure you can do it wihtout the plans.

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
plans are fair, most valuable part is the parts list that comes with it that gives you what and where to buy the materials, very good starting point that you can build upon or modify based on size motor you install. if you are planning to build it yourself they are worth the 30.00

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
ive purchased them, it gives a good starting point and a good view of how everything works ive did mods to mine tho for it to perform better than what they did, the parts list is the best part

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
I have the plans, built two of them now. Very happy with them, Just take your time it will work out. I run a 6.5 hp on a 12' jon boat pushes it just fine.

Yea, what MudMarshall said. I bought the plans. The parts list is the best part, because it tells you what parts to use, and where to get them.

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
If you need a parts list, the design portion isnt hard they just give you a cookie cutter pattern to go off of. If you print off some photos of production longtails and get an idea of some of the measurements you can look at the photos and "say that part goes from there to there and is about this far down on the frame" ect. and you will get close, or if you know someone with a longtail you can borrow and are able to look at pieces and copy the frame its shouldn't be that hard.

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
I have the plans and yes they do help, the parts list is a great asset and the pictures help guide you in the right direction,my suggestion would be to get the plans to help get you started . use the search function on this site and read as many post's as you can.then search the web and look at as many pictures of LT mud motors as you can find. it should start to come together for ya and if all else fails ask questions!

Re: Mad Mud Motor Plans...Are they woth it???
I bought the plans and the only info I used was the motor base plate measurements, cav plate and skag design. All the rest of the parts I upgraded and used different parts taken from other mud motor manufactures. If you do some surfing you can get some really good ideas. Dont re invent the wheel, someone has done it and posted picts somewhere. Check the different manufacturers web pages. So were they worth it....at the time when i was just starting yes.....looking back maybe not I could have figured it out myself if I was more patient.
Good luck
