 PD27 mysteries solved.
My new prodrive 27 was giving me a case of the azz stalling all the time and I was getting gun shy about it's reliability.
I found out I had 2 problems, one was the idle was set too low causing the motor to fart out and die when I came down off the RPMs. I set it up once and thought I had it but found out that it needs to be in the high 12s or 1300 to stop that problem.
The other problem was one KP told me to look out for with Kohlers, gas starvation. As it turned out I had too long a gas line and was running 2 in line filters. The motor would run great then all of the sudden just act like it ran out of gas.
I shortened up the gas line, removed the small inline filter that came with the motor, (I've got a big Honda in line cartridge filter) I also put a new gas line and priming bulb, a 3/8" hose rig so now the motor is 3/8 from the tank to the engine. I had to step it down at the inlet of the fuel pump but the only restriction is the last 2 inches of gas line.
I took it out Saturday for a test run and hammered it for 2 hours. No problems at all in normal operation. I'm feeling good again!!
I have found that it'll act just like my lawnmower and stall if it gets all tangled up in grass or comes suddenly into heavy mud which pours a load on it. She'll stall but when restarted, will come back on the line.
