Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
I found out today that GD does make their own mufflers. I'm not saying all of them but in the past it was most of them, from what I heard. They are not built in-house but they are also not made by Briggs. I think they are almost identical to the stock ones.

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
Deadbird,
Come on and tell us the whole story - user installed or factory - brand etc....
Looks like you were working on a pretty new engine there - maybe brand new ?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the new Briggs SS design - etc... We know it is NOT a performance upgrade - just hopefully more durable...

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
If you really pay attention to what he is saying, he is saying that the stainless muffler probably compares to the stamped steel muffler...
So for 160 dollars, you just MIGHT end up with slag in your motor.

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
Mitschke gets it but maybe others need a little remedial explanation.
Lets play "One of These Things is not like the Others"- go ahead and sing along if you get the urge:
So if anything breaks loose in the muffler, there is no 'dam' like in most other after market designs, it is funneled right into the head.

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
Kinda reading between the lines - the photos have nothing to do with the new Stainless Steel muffler - but are a commentary on the overall design where the pipes are at the bottom of the muffler.....
OK

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
Right, but at 3 years old the average MM with a stock muffler should be thinking about a replacement muffler anyway....
Debris breaking loose from those older mufflers has been a real problem --- seems like the SS might add a bit more life and be an improvement on those original aluminized steel mufflers....
This SS @ 160 sure sounds like a good option for those who are running stock and wanna stay quiet on a budget....

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
That motor in the picture only had 60 hours on it, shouldn't matter if it was 10 years old.
My Stock muffler was replaced at 24hrs when it fouled my plugs with metal and I pulled a lot of filings from my cylinders with a magnet.
So I hope the stainless pipe is manufactured better, because it looks like the same design

Re: GD Stainless Muffler Kit - $160
i will be pickin up my new ss stock muffler next week. The stock steel one that came with my motor had a couple of welds break and all i have to do is cover the difference between the ss one and the old one since it is still under warranty
