Post Shaft turning in U-Joint
I have a beavertail lt and I can not keep my prop from ridding up the drive shaft. It has dammanged my lower bearing seal cap which I will replace. The guy at beavertail told me that the entire drive shaft is spinning in the yoke causing the prop to ride up. I do not see how this is possible due to there is a key way in the shaft and the yoke with a key that seems to me would make it impossible to spin in the yoke. Can anyone help me figure out what might be happening?

Thanks!

Is your key broke? this is just a guess but there also may be a set screw to tighten it up. if its not tight it can still ride up because your prop is pushin the shaft.. again thats just my guess.

You are right on with the prop pushing the shaft up in to the yoke. I guess the set screws were not tight enough. On the drive shaft the threads for the prop stop at a certain point. Is there suppose to be a small gap or space of the non threaded shaft between the end of the bearing assembly and the nut ahead of the prop (heavy jam nut)? I hope I explained this clear enough. I belive this small gap of non threaded shaft would keep the prop off of the bearing assembly if my thinking is correct.

Fo Sho! Its a small world. I have been unable to finish repairing this thing as I have been waiting on parts from beavertail. I also have a carberator problem, but I will not be able to start on that till I can get it in the water. We'll have to go for a ride or it seems I am always looking for someone to go huntn with at some point during the season. U got a mud boat?
