Post Shaggy blind material
I was just looking at the shaggy blind material on MB's website, and it doesnt look like I remember it being. Now it looks like torn up strips of khaki pants, and there seems to be less shaggy material. WTF, is it just me or did they change it up, or change suppliers maybe?

It's being made in China now. Cheap + No overhead = Larger ROI for MB.

Contact Mr. Jerry at Rancho Safari. He used to make the original shaggy panels for MB.

Most Importantly: MADE IN USA

Barnes,

That's what I remember it looking like, but on MB's site theirs looks to have 1/2 the material.

MB does not have enough material. They cut corners with going to China.

From MB website
(This is the first pic from MB website. The rest of the pics on there are old and are pics of the old style they offered before making the change. Deceiving pics.)

Looks ok. You need to dress up around it with local vegetation. I usually build blinds anyway and this just adds extra concealment. What I like about it is that itbrolls up in boat and lightweight.

This is the concept I'm gonna try for my blind.

The frames that raise up will be attached to a single box frame that will lay on my catwalks and attach via C-clamps, or 4 bolts. Undo those 4 attachments and be able to lift the blind off all in one piece.

Where are you guys finding the braided nylon straps and buckles? Any chain stores carry them?

Owen do not forget that panel is only 48" high. Here is my parts list.

1) 7/8” Top Jaw Slides (Qty 8 = 4 front/4 rear)
a.

2) 7/8” External Eye Ends (Qty 12 = 6 front/6 rear)
a.

3) Deck Mounting Brackets (Qty 4 = 2 front/2 rear)
a.

4) Eye Straps (Stainless Steel) (Qty 8 = 4 port/4 starboard)
a.

5) 1” Swivel Web Clips (with square end for nylon strap) (Qty 8 = 4 port/4 starboard)
a.

6) 1” Fixed Threading Plate (Stainless Steel) (Qty 8 = 4 port/4 starboard)
a.

7) 3/4” EMT Conduit (Sold mostly in 10’ pieces) (Take measurements of desired blind length. Do NOT forget to take into consideration the blind height also at the bend in the conduit.)

8) 20’ of ½” EMT Conduit (I used this inside of the ¾” conduit to shore up the sagging at the splice in the middle. I blew holes thru the ¾” and ½” then tack welded the hole shut.)

9) Self-Tapping Screws (for mounting Deck Hinges, Eye Straps, Nylon Web Strap to conduit. Also will be used to replace set screws when connecting Jaw Slides and Eye Ends to conduit. Will be drilled into conduit.) (Qty 30)

10) 1” Seat Belt Nylon Web Strap
a.

11) 1” Side Squeeze Buckles (Qty 4 = 2 installed/2 spare) (They are under a lot of stress. Stainless if you can find them. You can also substitute these buckles with stainless swivel snaps and D-Rings.)
a.

12) 1 ¼” length Bolts with locking stop nuts to replace hardware set screws (set screws strip out under the stress of the plastic hardware). These will be used to connect Jaw Slides and Eye Ends and Deck Hinges. (Qty 12 = 6 front/6 rear)

I know, the front and back sides will be good, just will also need something for the roof portion.

If I go with grass mats on the front and back, I can do a military netting type stuff with raffia attached to it. I don't know if the top will function with the grass mats. And that shaggy material is high as giraffe pussy.

If you all intend on using the panels I HIGHLY recommend seasoning the panels prior to opening day.

What I mean is get it on your boat and let it sit out in the elements for a week or two. Hell, maybe even three. Wet it with the hose and let it air dry. This is man made materials and can be a little "new". Also, do not be afraid to add a little rattle can to tone it down if it is still too "new" come opening day.

If it does get wet while hunting, when you get home pop the blind up and let her dry. If not it will get all wrinkled up and takes a while to lay flat exposing gaps in your concealment. With some good care it will take care of you.

Owen, to get back to you on the grass mats on the roof. They are too stiff to allow my roof to pop open easily. I will have to use raffia.
