Post Prop Re-Work
Is it worth it to get this MB big blade re-worked? It is measuring 12" (brand new is 12.25). I got into some bad sand this past weekend and it chewed it up pretty good.

What do y'all think?

I am going to hold onto it for a spare. Just wondering if it is worth paying the money to have it reworked.

Get it worked they will add about 1 inch of pitch and re cup it and it will probably perform better than a new one ! And baggy's in Houma la does excellent work!!

Barnes, isn't Hopkins right there in Covington? I have seen mixed reviews on them, though. I am in the same situation. Lot of wear on my prop. That thing starting to look like a filet knife! I think I am just going to buy a whole new motor, though! :)

Yeah he is in Covington. I am going to take it by there Monday and let him look at it and see what he can do with it. He told me I should have just bought one of his props because they are better than the big blade.

Post Re: Prop Re-Work
A while back I had Hopkins rework a mud buddy prop for a 29hp motor after it was worn down and it gave me back 3 to 4 mph.
I also had Hopkins rework a few other worn props, they all gained some type of performance back but never better than a stock my buddy.

Post Re: Prop Re-Work
If u can find a shop that will add to the blade, weld meat back on..then its worth the trouble.
I find that when u just add pitch to a worn down surface drive prop.....u end up with a worn out prop with too much pitch.
Best to keep it as a spare..LIKE IT IS.
Save it for next time u go to that spot again.lol.
If u let a shop purdy it up for u, without welding, u will be paying them to take even more off.

That prop is still new if that's all that's worn. 1/8" on each side ain't shit.

I had Instigator work one for me. He added blade & cup. It was about 1mph off a stock BB but holeshot was awesome. Ran it at SETX for the 2nd 1/2 & Sunday & it gained 1.5 mph & kept the holeshot. Got it on the boat now w/ a new BB in the 1/2 box.

the only way to repair a prop is to weld it! i rebuild every prop the alabama marine police use in the entire state. i have never repaired 1 that didnt need welding. the trick is to weld your prop up when you lose a 1/4'' or so and its an easy repair. the people selling props love you guys no way in fuxx i would buy a new 1

No cheer leading here. The stock GT prop was better for me on my stock and modded Briggs compared to the mb prop. Now the Hopkins that was another story. The Hopkins isn't the holy grail of props but my modded Briggs loved it. Stock motors won't swing the 12x12.
