Post ? about out of state sales tax
Ok say you bought a hull for 8k in La but your from Ms. What would the sales price be?

Also lets say you look at all the big 4 motor company, and decide to buy from the factory. Would you pay sales tax on the motor or just the price plus shipping?

I know these seem to be stupid questions but I have finally decided what I want in the hull, and now im trying to pick a brand and hp motor.

Some states require different things to be registered Say supposedly that you boat a hull in Texas but you are a Louisiana resident you pay Louisiana sales tax when you register the boat. If you buy a motor from a company that is out of state and you live in a state that doesn't require the motor to be registered than you could get away with not paying sales tax on the motor. Trailer you pay no matter what because of the taxes you pay when you get tags.

Thanks.

So If I understand you correctly which I think I do, if I buy a boat from Gator Trax Pro drive etc... and pay 8k for it. Well I only pay them 8k for the boat but when I bring it back to Mississippi and go to register it I pay the sales tax then right?

+1 on what they have said and I'd like to add that if you buy a motor from someone out of state and have it shipped to you, you don't pay any taxes. If you buy from the factory and have them ship to you, you may still pay sales tax on the sale. I think it generally goes by if a company has a store in your state, they charge sales tax. If not, then they don't charge.

So what I'm saying is, you may find a better deal from someone out of state and just have them ship it to you.

Thanks Mud, thats pretty much what Wilson said on the radio show tonight. Im hoping I can get my new hull first of spring, and have enough left over to buy a good used motor and use it until I can buy a new motor.

Like others have said, you'll pay your state sales tax on the boat and trailer when you register them.. The motor is another story, if you have them ship it to you you won't pay tax but you'll pay shipping.. If you pick it up in person you will pay sales tax but no shipping..
