 My project boat.
Been running outboards my whole life, but decided to put together a longtail rig. Found a 16x48 lobell, and have been piecing it together since. The transom had been built up for an outboard so I had to cut it down. Installed some anti fatigue mat from harbor freight, gave it a quick can bomb job. Picked up a 23 go devil for it and installed a used Avery quickset( that I still need to add some grass to) I'm running about 18.5 with just me and the dog in deep water and about 20 in shallow. Anyway I've gotten a lot of great info off the sight and just wanted to share. Btw I've only got about $1500 in the whole rig so I know it's not the prettiest haha. Any tips are appreciated...thanks

Love an open layout like that. What do you think that boat weighs?

 Re: My project boat.
Not exactly sure on the weight, but I would say between 400-500 it's not a real light boat.

Thanks Cody, I'd like to get an SD one of these days, but right now my wife's in nursing school so it'll be at least another year.

 Re: My project boat.
Drive it like you stole it. That's a hell of a package for 1500. Run that til you get 10k for a used SD rig

Simple - Nice.
Hunting with a dog? Wading out of your boat? Auto bilge is worth every penny if you don't already have one.

I've got one on a switch now, but that is a good idea, especially with my dog coming in and out.

 Re: My project boat.
Thanks guys! Setx I caught that stuff on sale, it was $5 for a 4 pack of 2x2 squares, so I didn't have to do a lot of trimming. I laid it in with some weldwood. So far so good, but I'll keep you posted on how it last.

 Re: My project boat.
Good deal! Like the open floor plan- leave it like that, don't clutter it up with gun boxes and such. Oh yeah, I don't see a kill switch and lanyard- definitely could be a life saver! No shame in running an LT- I've been doing it since '89. Since I have relatively short runs, shallow water and hard bottom, no need to morph to a SD. Those speeds you stated are darn good. Since it is a used motor, run synth oil and grease; tweak the throttle to around 4200 rpm out of the water (if you don't have a tiny tach, get one!); get a spare prop now; if the air filter has one of those foam pre-cleaners around it- pitch it! Pickup a manual bilge pump for backup. If you run any veggies/mud, Gatorglid or Steelflex the bottom, it is worth it! Above all, get plenty of stick time, wear your PFD, and have fun!

 Re: My project boat.
I've gotten a tach and kill switch installed since those pics. I've actually been really impressed with the lt so far, once I got everything adjusted correctly it doesn't seem to be nearly as hard to handle or drive as people would make it out to be. I'm liking the open floor too, only addition I want to make is a grab bar. Would any of y'all happen to have just a worn down prop or something I could buy from you to throw in the boat for a spare?
