Post GD boats.
Anyone run a 1644 GD boat? Im looking for a good boat to buy sometime late spring or early summer. I have owned both 20hp GDLT and 27hpGDSD but they were both on War Eagle boats and well them boats aint built for shit like we run in. Im interested in the Gator Trax rigs but I like the GD boats to. Just looking for info from guys who have them.

I see your looking for a new rig and that is kewl. I also see you were considering a GDSD on a Gator Trax boat. My best advise is if you go with Go DEvil then get both the boat and the motor and not mix the two. I have a 20 foot Gator Trax with a 35GDSD. While all in all the performance suffers a little bit. The two were not designed for each other. My bud has an 18 GDSD with the GD boat. It gets up on step much quicker than mine. I know there are a lot more factors involved (IE: I am 300 pounds and he aint, mine is round chine his is not) but the combo suffers a little bit.

Turfdoctor,

I have owned and run the GD 16x44 - round chine and it's newer
brother the GDSD 16x48 - tapered chine.

Gotta say both are great rigs - but I much prefer the tapered chine design.
Especially with the faster surface drive motor.

Tapered is more stable at rest when shooting out of the boat - tracks
much better at idle speeds - carries more load at greater speed - is
overall faster under any conditions. Round will corner better at
WOT and cut through stuff like veggies a bit better and is great with
the longtail motor where you don't go for speed. However even with
a 23 GDLT the tapered was 4mph faster solo and 6mph faster with a
two man hunting load.

The GD 18x38 or 20x38 - round chine is the only round design I would
consider owning for myself anymore - that narrow rascal corners like
a sports car and cuts thru stuff like a knife - it also performs very well
with the GDSD motors. It is so narrow that it tracks well at idle too.

However - I am soon to order a 16x60 GDSD - tapered chine - cause
it seems all my hunting buddies are gettin heavier instead of lighter.

FYI - hope that helps

Also own a 16x44 GD boat with a 25hp GDLT and love it. I will never go back to boat with ribs on the bottom.

I've got the 16'x38" with the 23 LT. i love it but I would have gone with the 18' if I could do it again. I needed the narrow boat for where I hunt but the 44" from what I hear performs about the same.
I also own a gator trax and I love that hull too. That one is as 16'x60" 3 man gatorhide. Complete opposite but it is one hell of a stable boat.
In my opinion both companies make top notch hulls but stick with the GD boat if you have a GD motor.
