Post GTR LU problems
Has any one had the lower sprocket come loose? Yesterday I was on the way back to the ramp and the two allen screws that hold the lower sprocket on came loose. Stripped the threads on the sprocket. It would idle but that was it. Took a while to get back up the river.

Yeah well the threads on the sprocket stripped out is what it looks like. The LU only has about 50 hrs on it. The last time the nut on the shaft stripped out and let the key come out and the tapered bushing was spinning on the shaft.

i'm sure you mean the set screw threads, not the belt threads being striped? correct?

There should be 3 holes 2 to lock / compress the taper lock bushing on, and 1 to take it off (normally). Also there will only be threads on one side the set screw holes. If there are no threads on either side of the 2 straight across from one another than they are striped out.

That's what I'm sayin the 2 straight across are stripped out. The two straight across from each other only have threads on the sprocket to pull it up on the bushing and the 3rd one has threads on the bushing to take it off. But the threads on the two straight across stripped out letting the allen head set screws to come out which let the sprocket free spin.

I was trying to say the treads in the set screw holes were stripped not the threads on the screw itself.

I just need another sprocket. And we have motor restrictions anyways. Two lakes are no motors and one is 10 and under. Only a few spots to run my big motor.

Sounds like it was not installed properly. Buy a new sprocket and bushing. Re-installed to the torque specs that come with the bushing. Alignment and tension is important on the gates polychain belt drives.

Thanks oldschool when I put it on this time ill torque it to specs. Last time I just did it as even as possible until both the set screws were tight.

It's kind of hard to tell that the threads are messed up in the pictures but you can tell the threads started to cut in on the bushing. Maybe that let it loosen up. Idk.

Stick it in there pound that bitch until it wont go any further and weld it in place....thats what I would do if I needed it to hunt. Get the taper lock bushing and the gear on order. I would replace both.

Yeah I'm going to call them tmrw. If I can't get it by opening weekend I will weld it but i would rather not if I don't have to.

Well I called GT today and Hoyt's out for a few days. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with the same sprocket or if I want to try a diff one.
