 New Houseboat Build
Well with the server crashed my last topic was deleted.
Looks like I will go with Permafloats and have a few questions to the owners that have used this. I think I will make it 24x50. Going to go with 5ea. 8' sections on each side with a 8' water tank in the middle. Will also build a 3' aluminum rake in the front.
My question and why I always stayed away from the permafloats is every house boat I have seen that has been a few years old always had a sag in the middle. So being that would be the first one I build on floats would this be good:
3"x3"x1/4" angle to saddle the tanks and then on top on the angle a 2"x4"x1/4" t-bar. Then I would weld some angle iron to put the 2"x12"x24' floor joist every 16".
Do you think this would be good or do I need to go even stronger?

 Re: New Houseboat Build
depending on the size of the camp the 24's may not be enough it's not much more expensive for the 32's. what size are your porches going to be.

 Re: New Houseboat Build
i would also look into using 6 floats each side which will give you 48' of pontoon

 Re: New Houseboat Build
Some companies are offering 10' floats.
Go with 5 10' X 48" X 32". This would make your 50 foot.
Dont be cheap on flotation. I am tired of seeing practically every fucking camp with added flotation.

 Re: New Houseboat Build
Aluminum will be more expensive. You will also have to add anodes and have to worry about electrolysis.

 Re: New Houseboat Build
Fowl, Thanks and I will stop by when I see people at your camp. How did you brace it? You can e-mail or text me pictures: ben.sanamo@chouest.com or text at 985-677-2473 CJB, I saw that build but I do not know how it will not sag over time so thats why I am going all my research and want to over build it so I will not have any regrets. Also no one as answered my question about using 3x3x1/4" angle with 2x4x1/4 Ibeam on top. Do you think it would be strong enough?

 Re: New Houseboat Build
Just placed my order. Going with 15 4x8 floats and 2 4x6 floats. Going to have a 14' water tank in the center pontoon. The outer pontoons will will have 5ea 8' floats, 1ea 6' float, 2' aluminum rake, and a 8' aluminum mercruiser pod on the back. The total length will be 56' The center pontoon will have 5 8' floats, a 2' rake and a 14' aluminum water tank in the center.
Should not have a problem with floatation.
Planning to have a 20x38 house and 8' front porch and a 10' back porch. Plans may change a little once the build starts.

 Re: New Houseboat Build
I would rethink the 10 foot porch.Mine was 10' and it wasn't enough. I figure that I spend most of my time outside hanging out. Once you put a few chairs, coolers, and people that 10' shrinks quite fast.

 Re: New Houseboat Build
My old porch was 10x25. You can see where the roof stops. That was the original porch. Its now 20x25. Im sure glad I extended it while it was dry docked.uploadfromtaptalk1383698481810.jpg

This is the only other picture I have. The bottom looks just like the top. It's bolted on in the middle with a support from the bottom back to the frame.uploadfromtaptalk1383700368986.jpg

If you are putting a motor save all of your receipts. You will have to register it as a power driven vessel with LDWF.

Yes...most don't have motors. Most aren't moved around much, maybe twice a year.

 Re: New Houseboat Build
I post on another site and we have started a forum just for houseboats/camps. I have had trouble finding much info around the internet on them so thought it would be good to have a place to collect information. It would be helpful and interesting to others if you could post your build thread there too. http://www.thejump.net/board/viewforum. ... 70e5ffb5dd
