Sweet kill. That's where I killed my first deer. Went as a guest with Justin Lanoux 2 years ago.

Swamp-dog What's your name? You can message me it if you want. I've been hunting there with Justin since we could hold a gun. I was working in Texas 2 hunting seasons ago, did you bring that GTR. I was thinking about getting one, but I'm pretty sure it can't handle our runs.

 Re: Damn Shaft
Oh I know. But seriously, I do want someone to come run a surface drive back there. You know one of those guys with 1 million hours tiller time. It's a 1 mile run, if they can follow me in my 23 without breaking something AND say that they would run that every week end then I would consider getting one.
Swamp-dog I think I do remember you. There was a guest hunter that killed a deer and I couldn't remember his name so I called him Surface Drive on the radio. He brought a surface drive and I think went about 50 yds down out Mainline then turned around and said f-that.

Nah that wasn't me. I was a member of the club last year but didn't make a single hunt, I had a go devil last year. That mainline ain't no joke during low water. It was low when I killed my deer.

The roughest ride Ive ever been on was the pass going to the Prairie in Manchac when the water was low. It was nerve racking! You been out there jordan?

 Re: Damn Shaft
Yeah, I been there. Sorry to say that's nothing compared to our shit, you have inadvertently made my point...lol
I've only been in a surface drive once, we went down a slough that me and my dad went down a week earlier in the long tail. It was a pain in the ass and we kept beaching on logs, I had to get out 4 times. I told him on the last one to turn this bitch around I was tired of getting out.
Swamp-dog Do you think that GTR can run that mainline with low water?

Which mainline y'all talking about? I know there's quite a few in the pontchatrain and maurepas basin. I've been down a bunch of them. Just trying to figure which one you think is so bad?

 Re: Damn Shaft
I thought ive seen some GTRs take some abuse but nothing like my buddy put his through, we were going through some back woods at Damn B resevoir here in east texas and he was wide open hitting everything and anything that was in his way. We hit some 26" stumps and some cypress knees, i heard that motor make some sounds i have never heard one make before and he never let off the throttle. We were jumping logs, the prop was nailing stumps which i'm super suprised both blades and the belt were still in tact after all that. I ve been in alot of GTR's but never in something like that.

 Re: Damn Shaft
Yeah Go-Geter you can, but like you said they are a little expensive. Plus my wife would probably only let me have one or the other, and I still go on the WMA with the long tail.
When I was a kid my dad had a Volkswagen one, but the prop shattered one day. And a few other things went wrong, the WMA was opening up so he sold the air boat and bought a devil.

 Re: Damn Shaft
I done been up probably most of the runs in that swamp in a LT, pirogue, airboat, and my GTR...and the surface drive can get it done, but it beats the ever loving shit out of you in the process. Worse than a LT. Its the big ole ass prop and bunch of horsepower that get you. Pull boat runs and main lines are bad. The gas line gets bad too when the waters low. I can go anywhere you can go in that LT though. That being said, in that particular swamp, a LT is still king since you can't run an airboat no more.

 Re: Damn Shaft
Hard to beat that longtail in the swamp. That's where that motor shines. I can tell you one thing a prodrive ain't made for it. For work I brought that thing down a ditch off reserve canal and thought I tore the gears out of that sob.

 Re: Damn Shaft
Not a bad idea dfou Last time I ran a run like that we went to the crane pond at the end of that airboat run off of reserve canal...made me realize why I don't waste my time on that POS swamp anymore, and that ain't even one of the worst ones. Swore it was the last time. fuggin shoulder, ribs, and thigh hurt for a week. That swamp ain't good for shit anymore.

 Re: Damn Shaft
Bingo. I like the part where it gets to just 6' tall fourchette on both sides the run and the run is narrower than the boat...and there are 10' long 18" logs laying long ways on the bottom...consecutively it seems like.
