Post Gator Twins on a Gator Trax?
Thinking of putting two GatorTail 35's (w/rev) on the back of a Gator Trax 54x20 (huntdeck). Center Console, rear boxes, extended deck - aka heavy ass boat. Looks like the GT's weigh a good bit less than the PD's. I run shallow soft mud with a ton of stumps, so when I'm going thru slow-like, the skeg usually gets wedged up & stuck on a stump, and I was thinking duals could inch through that. Currently running a 45 mag MB HD sport w / Mikuni and that motor has trouble pushing the load - only getting about 26 mph with one guy.

You guys think the two GT's would weigh too much for a 54" wide boat?

I think he was more concerned about draft, on a shallow, hard bottom.

2054 should be enough boat. If you think it's too much weight get someone that weighs however much a motor weighs to stand on the transom.

I would think it would be to much weight and got to figure in spacing of the motors. I would call gator tail or gator trax. You are also going to want some extra bracing dual motors put a lot of stress on the transom when you think about two motors slamming up and down when hitting stuff.

Yeah, 670 lbs (PD) versus 520 lbs (GT). Big difference in weight. 150 lbs

Gator Trax said they put duals on that size boat all the time, it can be done no problem, just wanted y'all's opinion.

You just need to simplify down to a Longtail in the mud and bad stumps if your run isn't too far.

Well, in his defense, he's probably right. I'm the only dumbass in the camp with a SD. The LT's do much better in the stumps, just don't feel like fight'n a 36 HP LT! Ever driven one of those bastards in the stumps?? It's a Beast

I think I'll stick to my LT in the stumps.

Yall stay stuck rocking around high centered in those pieces of shit and I'll just pass on by
I will say the ease of handling and speed in open water is nice on a SD, but you guys work yourselves about as hard trying to crawl around with SD's in stumps as you would if you just ran a longtail!

Best bet it to find out the spacing needed for the motors, and see if you even have enough room for them. I bet someone with a dual setup would measure from the outside edge of each transom bracket for you.

I just find it comical that the general consensus says that driving a longtail rig puts you in some sort of sub par group... at least thats the attitude I get. Nobody should ever consider switching from a high end SD, to a "cheap" longtail hahaha

I agree, if you dont have a real long run, a longtail would handle that type of terrain a good bit easier.

I really don't see a dual rig doing much better than a single in this stuff?

What do you guys think?

in the stumps and timber, I see a dual rig having twice the trouble honestly no matter what type of mud motor... twice as much shit in the water to get hung up.

No timber or logs, just 50 yr old willow stumps.

Another thing to think about, how will that 1/8 gator trax hold up to a life in the stumps especially with the weight of duals on it?

The water is usually high enough in the first split. Towards the end of the second split it gets low. Not so low that the hull is rubbing stumps all over, but just low enough for the skeg to hit. So not too worried about the hull.

I dont know about your situation (if you have alot of gear to bring to your camp, or if you have a bunch of freeloading friends that dont have a boat), but for running thru timber I'd recomend keeping the motor and getting a smaller boat..........like a 1744 with HD.

But if you decide to keep it, yes a 2054 GT will handle dual motors. Personally I recomend a wider boat when a customer comes in and wants a dual rig, but a 54" will work.

Oh and FYI, that gas tank is killing you. The 50" and 54" Gator Trax ride tremendously better with as much weight to the rear of the boat as possible.

I have a stage 1 on an 18x54 and it has plenty of power. I would be willing to bet that a stage 2 single possibly a stage 3 on that boat would still get you right at 30mph empty and 25-28ish loaded. Have you ever run or riden in a boat that size with a single gtr hopped up a little to see if it would be sufficient?

I would worry about free board on the back when you ride up on a stump with a narrow dual rig. Might ask uncle j what happens.
