 shaft removal
I have a 25 hp godevil longtail and need some advice on pulling the shaft out in order to change the upper seals. i'v tried sliding a 1" thick piece of solid steel over the shaft, followed by 2 jam nuts, unscrewing the lower seal cap (essentially a shaft puller), and hitting the yoke with a hammer. unfortunately this isn't working. i've put so much pressure on the lower seal cap that the threads are begining to roll. I'v also tried moderate heat at the key stock, but to no avail. I have removed the set screws, and the only resistance that is keeping the shaft in place is the key at the u-joint.
can anyone give me some pointers?
thanks, mm

 Re: shaft removal
When I had mine done at the go devil dealer the guy had a slide hammer that threaded on to the end of the shaft where the prop goes. That worked in about 3 seconds.

 Re: shaft removal
Before you phucked up the threads you could've taken the prop nuts, prop, and forward jam nut off, slid on a piece of pipe, and then tightened one of the nuts with a washer to pull the shaft out. On second thought, it should work if you tighten the collar all the way up cause it will just push the collar against the shaft.

 Re: shaft removal
You can rent a slide hammer/axle puller kit (I think that's what they called it) from auto zone for free. Thats what I used, worked like a champ.

 Re: shaft removal

 Re: shaft removal
Whatever you do DONT TRY AND USE THE CAP AS A PULLER!! YOul phuck ur threads real fast... i built a slide hammer for mine with some pipe and a couple nuts and worked like a charm.
