Post Is A HONDA 9HP Engine Going To Be Enough?
I was giving a brand new Honda 9hp engine. Question is, is it going to be able to push a 14ft boat loaded down? Dont need nothing fast just wanting something reliable that can handle the dirty water without clogging up my water lines. I have a 7.5 outboard on it now. But I heard they push totally different. Should I buy a long tail kit for this motor or just buy a whole bigger setup? MOTOR WAS FREE

Thanks

I have a 16 longtail on my 1436. With just me in the boat it does 20mph. The problem is longtails are very weight sensitive. Loaded down with 3 guys, decoys, etc it does like half that. In my opinion I wouldn't run a 9 hp on a 14 foot boat

Mike J post a video of your boat doing 20 mph.

I think you would be fine . I run a 6.5 on a 1236 and do fine with it . My friend Trey runs the same set-up with his 1436 and with just him got 19 mph and that with before he did all the up grades with NR racing . JMO . One thing with the longtail , if you've got too go some distance-you are going too get a work out . If going over 3 miles one way too your hole and going over open big water . Might think about a surface drive kit .

I have heard different things. My 7.5hp outboard is by no means fast but it gets me to point A and B. Im not worried about speed really just something reliable that can handle the dirty water and not get clogged up. And the motor was free so ill only be in it $500 total. Which I can sell to upgrade if needed. But just didnt want to waste time if i know for sure it wont push that boat. Trying to get a vote I guess on what to do lol

I have a small rig for the horsepower restricted WMA's - super thin 14x36 Alumacraft with a 9hp GD on it. Just me and hunting gear it runs 12 mph, with two guys and gear it runs 11 mph. Haven't GPS'd it with three, but it's a water plow with that load and I'd be surprised if it runs 5 mph. It'll get you there, but it's painfully slow.

This these ninjas claiming speeds are ridiculous haha... That 9hp will do fine but I wouldn't expect much

I wouldn't rule some of those speeds out, but it would have to be a perfect set up and the planets would have to align just right
