Several places offer course preparation and testing. I recommend using one on them. Sometimes the Coast Guard can be difficult to deal with, they handle everything for u.

GO TO A SCHOOL!! You'll learn way more...

Some courses like the one I took are offered after work 6-9PM M-F and all day Saturday & 10AM Sunday then you're done that following Saturday. We met in an office building suite each night/day and took all the tests right there.

I took a class in Morgan City to get mine, at the time it was under 300 bucks and that covered everything including all the app fees. It was very easy, you were basically spoon fed the test questions.....but that was about ten years ago so prob more expensive now

It's going to be more than 300 for sure. That's the cost of the app fee, license, and the TWIC.

If all u want is a 6 pack...and u have at least a 6th grade education....u can just study and test.
if u pay for a school pay for the 100/200t lic.
nobody fails...u are pretty much buying the license.
pay the money and pay attention an u pretty much guaranteed to pass.
Period.

The thing about the home study thing is you have to make time to go it. Work all day then study at night plus all the other things you need to do. It wasn't hard but it wasn't easy to make time for quality studies. If you have a stressful job it would be better to go the class and be done. It's not hard but if you half ass the study then you won't pass it. When I took mine out of 8 in the testing I was the only one who passed. Like I said you have to make time to it. I know my wife wouldn't let me do it the same route again

Well, this concerns me greatly. It explains a lot.
