Post Getting my 1st Mud Motor
Buying my first mud motor this afternoon. 16 horse longtail. It's going to be a little underpowered on my 16X52 but excited either way!

Forgot to mention that it's 4 years old, runs great, and was only $500.

Damn that's a steal! My godevil will be 15 yrs old in a couple months and I wouldn't sell it for 500. Keep it greased, check for play in the prop, and give er hell. Let us know how you like it.

It won't get anywhere fast! But it did get me through some pretty shallow water. I might look into getting a new prop and watch some forums on here for ways to give it more speed.

Slow and reliable is ok. All these ADD guys with all their mods! Who gives a rat's anterior end! Yeah, speed is overrated in the skinny with submerged objects. I started with an 18 HP GD LT on a 1436 and it was slow but so easy to hide, pull and shove over mudbanks, and I killed a mess of ducks and fish with it. I am presently very fulfilled with my 27 LT and my only wish is to plane at 20 mph with two hunters and gear- that means I need exactly 3 mph more! I'm one of those guys that actually drives at the speed limit. Enjoy your rig, man!

I would like to get more speed out of it, but I am more than happy with it's performance only being 16 hp. I just use my dads 16X52 F&F w/ a 90 horse Johnson when I want to go fast!

Yea it's different for sure. It's an Onan engine. Made by Cummins.
