I found a good deal on a 27 go devil surface drive and I'm interested in buying but after talking to a few guys with mud motors they say that they are weird about running on curtain boats. So what's y'all's thoughts on them and if you have one what are you running them on.

That's what I'm wondering. Don't have a boat yet. I'd like a 16 42 or so but from want I heard longer skinny boats work well with the motor. So that what I'm wondering what people are running them on.

16 is a good length for that motor. The 42 could work if it has some weight to it. The 1648 is your best bet. Just make sure that the transom is the same and the motor is designed for. Find out if the motor is a tall or short transom. Make them match. Those motors have adjustable trim tabs to make it work just like you like it. Flat bottomed boat.

I'm running a 27hp on my 17x48. With a 1,000 pound load it runs in the high teens in deep water.

Overall I'm very happy with it, but if your getting it to play in the mud go with a 35 hp. The 27 will get you where you "Need" to go, but a bigger engine will get you where you "want" to go. Just my $.02
