 Chines
I've only built square chine boats and never played with double or triple tapers before. What is a double taper? A bottom that has 2 brakes in it? What is a triple? A bottom that has 3 brakes?
What is this one?

 Re: Chines
That was someone attempting to build a round chine, but who said to hell with it.

 Re: Chines
Looks like my double taper .. Drafts a little deeper and doesn't slide in turns as bad ... Kinda similar to driving an extreme hull

 Re: Chines
PD just calls it a tapered chine. IDK if that would be considered a double, or a triple.

 Re: Chines
That's a double taper. Triple taper will have one more break and be closer to "round". Here's a single taper

 Re: Chines
Technically a square chine is a single taper... but most dont refer to it as such. The one you have pictured is a trippple... count the changes in angle not including performance crimps...

 Re: Chines
If you are running a narrow boat, you can get away with square chines. My 42" bottom doesn't slide.
A wide boat will turn a lot harder than a narrow one. If I went anything over 48" I'd have a taper chine.

 Re: Chines
The boat in pic and PD have always used a Double Taper or Square
Square is not a single taper whoever said that, Square is straight side to bottom

 Re: Chines
I like tapered chines the best. However, square chines draft better for shallow water than any of them. I like tapered because they turn a little better.

 Re: Chines
All chines slide in the skinny stuff.... for deeper water that is true but the narrower you go with a square chine the less it slides.... my 1840 will turn on a dime in the deeper water.....unless all your weight is on the high side in a turn, you will take the boat off edge and slide.
you drink the kool aid, id rather drink the whiskey and raise hell!!!!

 Re: Chines
I've never had a problem out of a square chine but I just felt like experimenting and trying it out. Might go with a double then go from there.

 Re: Chines
Triple handles well, but they aren't usually broke as far forward and the break isn't usually as severe a true round so they don't draft as much water, imo. I like the compromise.
