16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
Well, went out today to do a little running. Its been since teal season since i've ran my boat. Everything was going good for awhile. Decided it was time to go find a little mud. Well, with the tide higher than usual, i was running some new area. I went to make a turn when the boat started sliding in the mud. I'm sure the passing tugboat didn't help by pulling all my water out, but thats really no excuse. Anyway, I'm sliding along when BAM!!! Went from about 23 MPH to dead stop! Managed to run into a very large log that was stuck in the mud. Had a buddy that helped pull me off the log and back into the water. It wasn't till after i got her back on the trailer that i really saw the new war wound. Didn't have a camera with us today so I'm gonna try to get some pics tonight. If not, I'll be posting them up tomorrow.
I was pleased with the way the .125 hull held up to this hit. No cracks or leaks. Thanks to Warren Coco and his crew for a pretty tuff boat.

Ouch, did you go flyin outa the boat ???
Insurance claim time - but at least it is above the rake and won't stop you from hunting another few days....
When I put a hole in mine Coco's crew welded on a battle patch - and it is .250 thick there now.... They did a beautiful job too....

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
Do y'all really think this is bad enough to worry about? I mean, there are no cracks or anything. Would my insurance cover this type of thing? To be honest, i thought that the insurance was more for the boat getting stolen, or me damaging someone elses property or injuring something. And another question, how would they fix this?
Neither me or my buddy left the boat. I ended up over the grab rail. He ended up layed across the front deck. If he wouldn't have been sitting on the bow, i don't think it would have been nearly as bad.

I wouldnt even worry about it. It doesnt look like it will hurt the performance any. Besides, it adds character.

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
I agree it is not in a spot dat woul affect da performance and while it does add character I would probably try to beat it out sum so dat der is not so much character.

I'm kinda going with the character thing myself. I was running on the bank of the intercoastal canal.

No repairs planned unless she starts leaking. Hopefully, this will prevent anyone from trying to call her a trailer queen!

Heading towards Crown Point from the belle chasse area. On the left shoreline right where the powerlines cross the intracostal.

Only thing its gonna hurt is the resale value. Run it hard.

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
yeah i know where u talkin about. i launch right here by the bridge. when low tide comes around if your heading towards lafitte theres a spot to the left about mile down that has a row of huge pipes sticking out the water for barges to tie up that is a straight shot of nice mud to run across

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
We need to go make a run one day. Where do you launch? Right next to the tunnel? I usually use the launch at Pimco road.

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
Depending on your insurance will make a difference how they see it. I have been adjusting boats of 7 yrs and it would be a total in my book but there adjuster may see it different but you can argue that it hurts the performance and it may develop leaks over time.

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
I'm thinking about heading over to my insurance company to let them look at it. I wonder what they are going to say.

Re: 16x56 GD boat VS. sunken log
Ii whacked a stump real good at Caddo and put a pretty good dent in the same spot but it was a little bigger. I decided I might as well use the insurance that I'm paying for every month. $500 deductable and gettin a newer boat for cheap
