 Long bed truck or trailer?
I'm running low on funds from building my new mud boat and ordering my Gator Tail mudmotor and I won't be able to afford a trailer for the next few months. I have a 96 f250 long bed truck that seems like it would work if I can rig up something to extend the tailgate a couple feet. Do you think it would be worth it to do this or just wait for a trailer? I have a buddy who has a welding machine and I'm not sure I can stand waiting that long to use my new mud toy once its finished.

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
Wait for the trailer x1000, damn.
You have a flatbed trailer or anything that would get you by? Forget putting it in the truck. If you decide to load it into a truck call the guy with the paddle boat on here. He has experience securing loads without using trailers.

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
I have an old trailer that I tow my cub cadet lawnmower around in but it's not big enough for the boat unless I leave the tailgate down. I could keep the chains on the gate to lock it in place while I tow the boat but I'm not sure if that's a safety hazard on the road, but I guess if i tie flags on the back it would be fine. It would be easier to launch the boat that way than in the back of my truck, and I wouldn't have to make anything for it. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
If you keep it in your truck what do you do when you get home? You just haul it around everywhere?

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
That boat and motor is heavier than u think, and awkward to carry.
Look for a used trailer! !

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
Works great if your boat is really small. GTR's are far from "really small"

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
Not a joke. I've been researching and came across somehing like this. I already talked to a friend with a welding machine and said it can be done to my truck so I was thinking about going that route. I'd need some help launching it but I figured I'd have somebody with me anyway.

Re: Long bed truck or trailer?
Although I couldn't recommend any more strongly that you DON'T try it with a full size rig.
How long is your boat? What truck do you have? Have you checked craigslist? you can usually pick up an old trailer for a couple hundred bucks....
