 New rig
As much as I tried to avoid it. I got one. Found a smoking deal on a brand new boat motor combo. Having been told I am staying put and not deploying to AFG again, I got a 2006 MB with 8 hours on it, and a brand new Lowe 1760 roughneck. Yep - 8hours on the motor. Hex prop 11x10 is brand new - big blade already in the mail.
boat needs to be completely rigged - lights, bilge, 12v receptacle etc...
Reviews to follow once I get it kitted out.
Heres a pic.

 Re: New rig
Rock guard on the skeg 8 hours comes from 1 tank of gas through the boat in 6 years. Guy bought it in 2011 brand new - used it twice. Then he winterized it and left it in his garage. For me to find!

 Re: New rig
^^^ Ft Irwin - someone is ramping up for a deployment?
Buzz did the motor come with the manuals so you can do the recommended service on the motor with the right stuff?

 Re: New rig
It did. Already contacted MB and then got my compression tester out . Going to zerk the shaft eventually but for a comprehensive go over - - oil - filter -plugs - grease shaft and all zerks -check belt tension -tighten all bolts -clean carb - run new fuel through it for nlt 30 minutes to see how it runs - tighten bolts on transom - change fuel filter - prior to running - check seals- seem great - check shaft - drink a beer - prep boat for rigging. Already started drilling holes.

 Re: New rig
Motor is in pretty good shape. Did about 90% of what I wanted. How the heck do you loosen and tighten the bolts behind the clutch? Crows foot didnt even work.

 Re: New rig
sometimes I sacrifice a cheap wrench - heat it up and bend/cut/shape into a "special purpose" wrench - would making special purpose wrench help?

 Re: New rig
The story continues,
Made it out on the water today. COLD But opn water is open water. I had to be fast as an ice shelf broke from a nearby island and would be at the ramp within the hour.
Put the back of the boat in the water to see if it had any issues with coils - as I've had in the past AFTER I launched.
Ran it to see how it handled a bit of resistance from the water - no issues so i launched.
Puttered along to get a feel for it then clamped the throttle.
Wow.
From a 27 PD to a 35 MB. Got on step fast. Played with the trim to find the deep water sweet spot. Got it dialed in.
Ran deep for 10 minutes WOT took a corner and it happened.....sputter....prop stops.....wtf?....
Engine shut off? Gas issues? Nope....
When turning the clutch button touched my coat and disengaged the clutch....motor was still on =) could hardly hear it the wind was howling.
Engage and off I run again towards the shallows.
To the shallows I go. 2ft was as shallow as I could find with all the flooding we've had.
Care to guess the speeds both shallow and deep?
Load was me, spare tire, and deep cell.
Stock prop. 2006 MB - not the BB its a 10x11.
Scroll down for answers
Speeds:
Deep @3990/4000 rpm was 22.5mph
Shallow @4000rpm was 24mph
Nothing stellar I know, but for a 715lb boat I was delighted with those speeds. Because with a full hunt load and 3 guys I should be able to see 18-20mph with a BB. Which is EXACTLY what I want.
I think the BB will add a bit but my motor was pinned and almost seemed like it was hitting the limiter. Although I believe the limiter is at 4300 rpm?
More to follow. Thanks for reading.
Happy easter guys =)
