A fellow MM enthusiast has a similar setup as mine - but he has a 1651 excel with a 4500 bD

So, he wants a hammer prop to carry a load but had complained that his motor has trouble getting the boat on step with the current 12x11 he has on it with 3 guys and dekes. Just plows.

My thought is drop pitch to carry those real heavy loads.
Am I correct in this or.....opinions?

I have my 11x10 im going to let him try to see if it'll work with a super heavy load - and my big blade.

After buying a new prop and possibly getting it worked why not just spend that money on a BPS cam and have those IM heads given a valve job? My buddy had a 4500BD and we made it a 5500 BAMF. The valves were not even cut right to start, angles on the seats were different from the valves. Before he had the same problem as your buddy had, now he still can't believe the power. That cam is a low/mid grind, valve job is a given. Wake that motor up and he can turn whatever prop he wants.

That's correct u can drop 1 inch of pitch or 1 inch of diameter to gain rpm and help push a load better

My 18x44 with a black death 45 would only turn 3850 to 3900 in the water I changed my bottom gear motor came with a 36 top and a 47 bottom. I changed bottom gear to a 48 now ican bump the 4350 coils and run 28 29 mph at 4500 fta gears only a 100 bucks

Im a little late but had a ? Im running a 35 Briggs stock with a 36 on top and 34 on bottom only getting 3500-3800 rpms and about 19.5 on speedo any suggestions with 11x10 prop wanting more speed

Is the bigger tooth sprocket supposed to be on the bottom or top. I have access to get whatever sprocket I want just wondering if I should go up to a 40 on the bottom whats your thoughts I've already thought about going to a 12x10 prop

If you put the 40 on bottom it should help over the 34? What rig is this, never seen one with that gear ratio . Also the black death motors come kinda steep geared , wouldn't hurt to drop a bigger gear on the bottom

i just tested this on my 1760 with a stock 35.

Big Blade with 4 adults and a couple coolers full of water got me 17 mph, put my 11x10 on and it jumped on step faster and operated in a better RPM range at 19mph.

Gear ratio is stamped in the block buy the oil drain number on the left is the top gear number on the right is the bottom most black deaths came with a 38 top 48 bottom or a 36 and 47
