Post Motor swap
Hey guys I have a 20 hp honda mudbuddy longtail. I was wondering if I could put a 35 vanguard on the frame and put a bigger prop on?

Not only the two different size blocks but the two different brand motors could prolly cause problems. I went to replace an 8 horse tchuempse with an 8 horse Briggs on a go devil and Warren coco said that it would take a lot of work to make it fit because the height of the shaft coming out the motor is different.

We put a 29hp big block van on a GD Crawfish 58" frame that started out as a 9.5hp Briggs. It was a challenge, but it could be done. If you have access to a welder and steel fabrication tools and can take accurate measurements it is a fairly easy project.

Not to hijack the thread, but what's the biggest motor you can put on a 16hp briggs godevil frame

Your 20 Honda is a small block. You can put a 23hp Briggs on your frame, but may have to redrill motor base plate holes to accomodate Briggs motor base hole spacing. Motor shaft height and diameter should be the same. May have to reprop up a couple inches in pitch. Some older GD motor plates already had holes drilled, as used on 9.5hp Crawfish model. We put an 18hp Briggs on one and didn't have to drill new holes in plate they were already predrilled. Had to reprop it to 9x5. Since this swap we moded frame and put a 29hp big block on it. This was a challenge because we had to fab up a new motor mount plate and upper motor mount,to get proper motor shaft angle of 16 degrees. Also had to modify u joint yoke to 1 1/8 motor shaft diameter. Reproped it again to 9x8 Hopkins, we have about 100 hrs. on this rig now without any problems. Wish I could send pictures, haven,t got capability yet.

with enough modifiacations, like danny was explaing, you could put any small engine and put it on any mud motor frame. shaft heights, shaft angles, and u-joint knuckles may have to be replaced, also throttle, choke, and elesctrical will need to be re-routed. you may only need to do one of these, you may need to so all. not an easy task, but imo, definitely could be worth it
