Post Patching interior Holes in aluminum
Anyone know how to patch a small screw hole on the inside a boat? Previous owner decided to attach all kinds of shit on the inside and I can't stand looking at all of them.

I was thinking I would use some sort of epoxy to fill the holes and then sand it flat and repaint. Any thoughts?

Or 3M Scotchkote 226 sticks if you don't have access to a welder.

Jb weld spread thin over the hole then sanded and painted should work.

take a grinder and grind it down to bare metal inside and out on all the holes and take it to a local welder and have em welded. you take all the prep work out by having it to bare metal and shouldn't cost you much

Kansas. A weld would be nice but the epoxy would get the job done and probably be easier. There's no structure concern so if I can plug it with glue I'll just do that

They do make some filler rods for aluminum if u have a torch... could solder them in with it and sand them down. Just dont let it get toooo hot.

DON'T put JB weld on it or you costing yourself way more money when it starts leaking again and the welder has to spend forever getting that bull shit JB weld off

The holes are purely cosmetic annoyances. I'll take pics and post them - they're from where the previous owner tried attaching stuff

Ideally welding would be the best option but if its just a cosmetic fix to plug a small hole where u dont have to worry bout leaks and don't have access to a welder. I had a few drill bit holes on the bow and bench seat. Rivets or welding is a much better option for structural repairs on a tin can boat you might get a bit of burn through if your not proficient at welding aluminum

Stupid holes like the ones you see. There's more, I just don't have pics on my phone right now. I'm cleaning this boat up to "like new" again status

Go get ya a cheap torch from lowes and some low heat rods from harbot freight. Or both from hf and clean the area and braze them in. Get on youtube and look tor directions. Or bring it to a welder.

If you are going thru the trouble of making the boat "like new" find a welder and do it right. If not, I have filled a lot of holes in aluminum rigging with an aluminum rivet the paint. Can't fill those rivnut holes that way.

If that is as small as the holes are, the welder will have it done in no time. I'm with everyone else on this. If you have a grinder, get a tiger disc, bout 60 grit. Sand a small area around each hole to be "tacked". That way the welder just has to pull the trigger on each hole and be done with it. You will be suprised how fast a screw hole fills up. Then to cut some time down, just have the welder tack the holes. You take the tiger disc and sand down the welds to a flush smooth finish. Done. I'm wiling to bet that it would take him longer to set his machine up, gather his helmet and gloves, then to weld up screw holes.

Just for the record, jb waterweld worked great. Biggest hole was about the size of a nickel. Patched and sanded, can't tell the hole was ever there
