 MMO Redfish Series
Good morning everyone my name is Shaun and I know a few of you have already heard of our Redfish series that we are about to start here in Louisiana. I first want to say thank you to all the guys who put in a lot of hours on this and that will continue to put in many, many hours to this series. A lot of late night meetings went into this to decide just how we would start these tournaments.
I will first start by explaining how the 2014 season will go then give some details on what we have planned and committed for the 2015 Series. We know we can not please everyone but we have thought about every option to a tournament series to be fair.
The two tournaments for 2014 will be basically to test the waters and see just how many would love to actually have a series for the die hard mud motor boat owners. This is a growing experience for everyone so we will consider changes for the 2015 season.
Talking with Louisiana WLF, CCA, and costal businesses we want to make sure that we hold these events in sportsmanship manner. To have the support of all these great Louisiana services we have to follow rules and conservation.
The first tournament for 2014 will be held in Cocodrie, La. Date and Marina will be released soon but I can say it will be in the month of June. Its open to all mudmotor boat brands, longtail, surface drive, stick steer and tillar handle. It will be 2 man teams, $200.00 team entry, Weigh-in 2 reds under 27". You will be able to use live, dead or Artificial baits. We will also have a optional Big Fish entry for $50.00 per boat. Fish will be weighed LIVE or DEAD for the first tournaments. 90% payout, 10% going to a local charity. Teams will only be allowed to have two Redfish in the teams boat at weigh-ins.
We know that most Mud Motor Boats DO NOT have live wells. We have discussed this with so many helpful organizations and for our series to grow we will eventually grow into a LIVE only weigh-in tournament. For now we allow fish to be live or dead to be weighed. Now, we understand the situation and have dealt with many companies who will help all who want to participate in the Series in 2015 with showing the low cost of adding a removable 10 to 18 gallon live well to boats. Being the MudMotor community is such a large family we have to follow conservation for redfishing. We want to make sure that we are allowed to have a tournament series that upholds to all Louisiana Organizations.
MMO Redfish Series will use the two tournaments this season to tweak any gaps for the 2015 series. 2015 series will consist of two/three tournaments with a Championship Series for the top 10 Teams. Tournament locations have already been set and the tournaments will be held in April, June and August. With a possible first tournament in February. We will have awards for team of the year, Lady of the year and kid of the year. This will be a points series
We will release all rules, locations, facebook, website, marinas, and all other information in the next two to three weeks for the 2014 tournaments. Our sponsors for this season who we are so grateful to have and are in full support of our series have put up some great prizes. Along with the 2015 series a brand new boat, motor and trailer will be up for grabs!
We hope everyone will join us for these series and we know it will be a great event for the mudmotor community. We will keep everyone up to date with news and event information. Be on the look out for our facebook and website info.

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
Will there be any push to have different divisions for 2015 (Live/ Dead Bait & an Artificial Division)?
I like the fact that you're wanting to bring in live wells.
Any special insurance requirements or policy we must carry or adhere to?
Will the big fish side pot be a "Slot Red" being within LWF min & max regulations? Or can it be a bull red and assuming LA allows the use of a bull red tag...?
Any push to move it outside of LA and move along the Gulf Coast for some tournaments during the series... IE. Alamaba, MS, LA & TX with the finals being somewhere like LA?
Also, you should be allowed to come into dock with the legal number of fish per local state rules... LWF, TPWD etc... I read you can only have 2 reds in your boat!...I think the intention was 2 to the weigh table but you may want to clarify that??? I don't see how you can limit people from keeping fish that are legal to retain as long as your not over your max bag limit.

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
I understand the fact that y'all wanna bring in crowds. However there is no skill in live/dead bait. So I'm out. I would be willing to help out with the tournament if y'all need voulenteers. Unless the trout are biting

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
Sounds like a good idea i think the Mud Motor style tourny would really intrest lots of people that would have never thought of intering a tourny because of the style of rig they fish out of. It could for sure grow into something very large.

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
Remember that MM's are mostly used by the common man. Giving away boats and making this too big will only entice the pros to borrow or purchase a MM rig This should be just like a mud run where guys come our for camaraderie with a laid back atmosphere. You should catch your 5 red limit and weigh in your biggest 2. I want to go home with my fish after spending all that money. Hold it like a school benefit rodeo or fundraiser like they do every weekend in the summer around S LA. The GT rodeo is a perfect example. I applaud you for putting this together but Id like to see it scaled down with categories for several species and kids divisions. Model it like this and you would have a better response.

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
I guess I should have stated we want to hear your ideas or thoughts. We will post more and I want to let everyone know that the rules may change if something is wanted more/less. We can not please everyone but want to make sure that we consider all.
One big concern was about live bait and artifical and trust me I wanted artifical.. lol If we see that having plastic is what more people want we will change the rules prior to the June tournament..

[quote="MMO Redfish Series Yes I am sorry you will be able to only bring 2 reds to the weigh table. Your allowed to have your bag limit per Louisiana Law but having a Live Well trying to keep 5 to 10 fish alive is extremely hard.[/quote]
It would be easy to cull the smaller live fish to an ice chest. Most probably wouldn't try to keep fish alive that I will be cutting up later anyways.
Why would the max size be set at 26" and not 27"? (Just curious)

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
The "live/dead" bait debate is useless in South la,,,,there are no places i know of that dead/live bait will outfish artificial....I see no advantage to the live/dead bait in summer.
If you cannot catch you limit of reds with artifical down here something is wrong.
I vote for a central launch a little north of cocodrie due to the speeds and travel times of suface drives...
More plentifull protected marshes north of Cocodrie. PAC/Montegut/Chauvin/Robinson...etc. etc..
This is a non factor in other tourneys due to faster boats.....with mud motors it becomes more of a factor. JMO...

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
I would agree keep it all artificial.
Those portable livewells are a pain in the ass in my experience and don't work the greatest in the summer...but that's just from the ones I have messed with, they were not high dollar rigs.

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
Here's the deal during the summer with live wells , I have fished a few big tournaments in my life and we always had oxygen and extra bags of ice to keep the fish cool ..
Not sure if anyone knew about the ice trick but it works .

I can wear out some BIG redfish where I fish in Grand Isle with live cocahoe minnows! And you're right...there is no skill involved. But, I didn't think it was about skill. I thought it was about heaviest fish?

 Re: MMO Redfish Series
Ok guys sorry it's taken so long. We had a tragic death of one of the board members and it's been really tough last few weeks.. Being it's taken a couple months to get past this we have decided to have one tourny in September. It will be held in Cocodrie, la. Dates will be confirmed this week and will be posted.
During this time we have secured the dates for next year which will be a three tourney series starting in March with a championship in July...
Sorry for the delay and we will post the tourney dates for September
Thanks MMO
