Boat help - sliding in turns
I have a 1754 Uncle-J hull with a slick bottom and square chine. I love the boat and it is built like a tank. Is there anything I can do to the bottom of the boat to help with it sliding when turning without a load? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
Have you about a 2' piece of angle welded in the center of the rake where it meets the water. Or just get some more tiller time and get used to it.

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
I have a square chine WC Customs and when I'm in a turn I just let off in the turn and when the back dips just get back on it and she'll cut!!! Mine is a CC so more time on the water will do it. Trust me.

I don't wanna let it bug me cuz it's the interwebs, but I went ahead and flipped the FOE switch on AKA. Just couldn't read another word that he hacked out.

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
I've tried the foe thing for a couple other folks and it gets aggravating trying to "read around it" so I turned them back on. I just wish some folks (not just AKA, don't wanna seem like I'm just picking on him) can't carry on a conversation with a little couth and I'll even go so far as to say 'self respect'.
I know it's the internet, I don't take it serious but it's frustrating to have to sift through when there may actually be decent information in a thread. Pretty much ruins it for me. Don't take me wrong, I'm all about ribbing, cutting up and getting in people's doghouse, calling them out etc... But there's a line. If I won't say it looking at the person, I won't type it. People have lost a lot of general respect for others by using the internet to spew their nonsense without repercussion.

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
I'm on several forums and you've always got that 10% that never add anything and really are just clutter. Then there's the 90% that's information based. This board seems to be completely 180 degrees from that. 90% clowns and people trolling for responses and stirring the pot and 10% info.

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
AKA, You posted that to stir shit. Don't try to back away now and say otherwise.
I've personally sat my own ass in more than one Uncle-J boat and I have never seen one of his (or anyone that claims to be a builder) boats that was so out of square it wouldn't go straight in the water. I'm sure any self respecting fabricator wouldn't let that kind of product roll out of his shop, and keep the doors open doing it.
The problem I've seen with you is this: you are so closed minded to what you know it intimidates you and anything that you can't open your mind to or wrap your head around is "junk". When you get out of your comfort zone, the name calling ensues and it's downhill from there. You are probably just an abrasive personality, that's fine. People think I'm an asshole myself on a regular basis but I don't close my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears when someone tries to put something in front of me.

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
And OP, sorry to derail your thread. I guess I'm part of the problem this time I hate to say it though, sliding in shallow water is just a characteristic of a lot of these boats. The more square the chine, the worse it's going to do it. It's just physics, doesn't matter who builds it or what they name it.

You are reading too much into it SETx. He's just an insecure little troll who feels like he can be a big ole bad ass on the www.

In shallow water my Gator Trax would slide in deep water turn on a dime

I wish that when you hit the foe/ignore button that the person you put as a foe, would not be able to see your post. That way if everyone put someone on foe, they could not see anything on the forum.

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
Would welding two 2 or 3 ft pieces of angle iron to the bottom of the boat in the back about 6 or 8 inches from the side help along with one from the front going about half way down the center

Re: Boat help - sliding in turns
Aaaanndd right on cue, there's the schoolyard name calling I'm pretty sure you can tell by a few posts of mine that I'm far from an idiot. And what makes you believe that there's some truth in this thread or this site for that matter that I'm not capable of handling? I've seen you do it so many times before. You attempt to end your post with some snarky cliche remark or saying that is supposed to just drive your point home or finalize some profound statement and all you do is prove even farther what you are. Not to mention, no, I don't believe you have better things to do than stir shit around here, that seems like all you're capable of. My initial post directed at you had nothing to do with mud motors, boats etc. it was an observation of your sub-par communication skills, piss-poor attitude towards everything you don't have for yourself. I understand fully, lawnmower engines are what you know, it's your life, your living etc... But for the rest of us who have advanced farther than our 8th grade summer job, it's a hobby, a mode of transportation, means to our fishing hole etc. You don't realize this apparently. Maybe one day you'll remove your head from that smelly spot that follows you around realize what really is going on and maybe learn a little about people. You must be a miserable SOB to be around every day.
